In June 2017, a fifteen-year-old known as Sadie Riggs committed suicide, and her family blamed her peers for bullying her mainly on social networking sites. They made fun of her because she had braces and red hair. The bullies were telling her that only devils have red hair. Sadie was tormented on Instagram, Facebook, and other messaging platforms where her peers would ask her to commit suicide. When she could not take it anymore, Sadie hanged herself.

 18 U.S.C. § 2422(b): Coercion of a minor

Section 2422(b) prohibits using interstate commerce facilities like the Internet and social media to coerce, persuade, or entice a young child into sexual activity with which the perpetrator can be charged with a crime (Sternberg, 2012). Such an offense carries a minimum sentence of ten years. State laws have not prescribed precise consequences for children that engage in cyberbullying, and few state laws classify bullying as an offense. Also, the state might tackle cyberbullying and bullying in general across multiple laws.
