Challenges Faced by Tutors when Trying to Differentiate the Curriculum and Delivery Techniques

The challenges tutors might face when trying to differentiate the curriculum and the techniques of delivering content are, first, time restraints and the need for flexibility in certain schedules. Burden, Paul, and David say that teachers, in addition to paperwork, expectations, and meetings, are required to develop lesson extensions for higher and lower performers (24). This is too much; thus, finding time to differentiate the curriculum and deliver content techniques would be hard. The other challenge is adequate preparation for learners at different levels so that content fits both the low and higher performances, which affects the differentiation of curriculum from techniques for delivering content. Another challenge is that some school districts must follow the pacing guides, which can affect curriculum differentiation and content delivery. This is because following the pacing guides limits teachers from following the curriculum and sidelining the techniques of delivering content. It is also time-consuming to prepare alternative assessment materials and give feedback.

Suppose I have seriously disengaged learners in class. In that case, as a first-year teacher, I would do much to reach such learners. First, I will show the learners some care by communicating with them to create a strong connection between the students and me. Besides, a strong connection between teachers and students that is created by creating warmth and empathy results in improved learner attention, motivation, achievement, and behavior (Burden, Paul, and David 40). Student disengagement in class could also be due to the same teaching techniques (Bergdahl et al. 29). Therefore, to keep such learners engaged, I will drift from teacher-oriented learning activities and create student-centered learning that empowers them to see themselves involved in their work. In addition, I will use my lesson plan to create different opportunities to find out what motivates learners, such as having exciting and engaging lessons. For example, I could ask questions frequently as we learn to keep the learners more engaged. I could divide students into study groups that are easy to supervise, which helps engage the learners.
