The case study will focus on Andre. Andre is currently 21 years old and in an unstable relationship with a girl named Kisha, who is also 21. Andre grew up in a very strict family where they were brought up under strict rules. In a family where his father was an army officer and his mother was a teacher, Andre and his siblings were taught to stick to routines and follow orders and instructions without questioning. Andre is now taking his final year on campus and has become a heavy drinker, affecting his life and education. Matt is one of his closest friends from his group of friends, who hang around with him during and after campus. Matt believes that people should not live life under rules. Since he was brought up by a single mother who allowed him to do anything he wanted, he believes that that is what life is about.
Case Story
Matt passed his ideas to Andre and convinced him that people do not have to live under rules. Andre was misguided, and because he lived under rules as a child, he discovered that living a carefree life is more exciting. He was also unhappy with his father’s upbringing; therefore, he was easily persuaded to drink when he joined campus, where he was free from his parents’ strict rules. In his second year, he started drinking a little during parties, and over time, Andre has unknowingly become dependent on drinking and is drinking heavily (Martinez, Sher & Wood, 2016). At one time, he was summoned by one of his instructors because he was concerned about his grades dropping. However, this did not change Andre, as he is currently at risk of failing his end-of-third-year examinations. His extreme freedom and the belief that he can live without limits are driving him to excessive alcohol intake and a lack of interest in his grades.
Case Analysis
I believe that Andre’s father, an army officer, and his mother, a teacher, believed in raising children under very stringent rules. Following orders without questioning was part of their way of bringing up their children, and that only worked excellently during childhood. The fact that they did not allow Andre to make decisions freely and question orders given to him made him feel controlled. Therefore the moment Andre found a chance to be free from orders and strict instructions, he became vulnerable to misbehavior. Andre is trying to replace his restricted past with a chance to enjoy freedom. He has also come to believe that freedom is defined by excessive drinking and a disregard for academics. It is evident that both his upbringing and his surroundings led to his alcoholic conduct.
Recommendation
Three things should happen for Andre to get the help he needs. Firstly, Andre should be helped to quit his drinking habits. This is a process that will take time because he must go to a rehabilitation center where he will receive care and treatment for his condition. This is the very first step because nothing else can move on in his life if he does not begin with quitting alcohol (Keyzers, Lee, & Dworkin, 2020). The second step is to offer Andre counseling on how to live his life and learn that freedom comes with responsibilities, a process that will require a mentor or a counselor who can help him overcome the negative feelings he has about his strict upbringing and learn to make responsible decisions (Myers & Twenge, 2015). The next stage is to assist Andre in staying away from the wrong group of friends. Notably, individuals who are easily swayed by peer pressure should be advised and guided to make independent decisions.

Evaluating case studies is a common way to demonstrate concepts and terms used in courses. A usual assignment would ask you to read a case study and evaluate the situation based on what you learned from your course and text readings.
