The Business Ethics and Leadership course was interesting to me in its entirety. However, some topics piqued my curiosity more than others did. Leadership sets an example for a large or small group of followers (Caredda, 2020). As a leader, one must anticipate conflict, be aware of one’s bias, communicate effectively, and understand different perspectives and theories of ethics (Brown & Mitchell, 2010). The diversity of individuals fuels the presence of conflict. The followers may desire different results, have personal issues with each other, yearn to raise their concerns, or have different strategies in mind. Further, learning about the several types of conflict helped me understand the reasons that could lead to battle in the first place.

In addition, every individual is unconsciously or consciously biased. The unconscious biases tend to show even when one has no intention to discriminate against others. Understanding that it is necessary to investigate our personal preferences is one step towards being a better leader. Furthermore, effective communication is essential when one occupies a leadership position. It is necessary to understand that effective communication can solve numerous issues proactively. To be an effective communicator, it is essential to master the language, be empathetic, identify and eliminate barriers, and seek feedback while responding to the receivers of the information. Finally, ethics is critical because one must set the right example as a leader. Acting ethically or otherwise shows one’s values and beliefs. The followers tend to emulate these behaviors.

This course has provided a reliable foundation for further studies because I have obtained knowledge that can be applied in different spheres of life. The process of learning allows one to think critically in different situations. Therefore, I can easily apply critical thinking when I need to communicate with others or act ethically. I must interact with colleagues, make decisions, and think critically about different topics in learning. Therefore, the course has set a reliable foundation that allows me to learn other elements quickly or undertake new studies with minimal difficulties.

In addition, I have learned through observing my colleagues or reading their discussions about the need for diversity in any setting that involves human beings. Diversity promotes a rich interaction in the class or work setting. Appreciating any form of variety promotes better interactions that are more meaningful. This concept applies in real life since learning occurs both in class and outside.

I constantly find myself questioning whether the materials are the most recent. This question reoccurs due to the desire to study materials based on current evidence. As a result, I tend to find more learning materials online and compare the information with those recommended in the coursework. The process is beneficial because it enables me to learn new aspects that may not be included in the course materials. This means I acquired more knowledge than relying only on the course materials. The motivation behind these behaviors is the understanding that researchers add to the knowledge bank gradually and consistently through numerous studies. The ability to research these studies and identify their differences is valuable.
