Burnout and Self Care
Burnout and Self Care Questions
- Do you self-medicate with drugs or alcohol? Do you find that your intake of such substances increases on more stressful days when you experience an intense schedule or a particular session that hits too closely to home?
I do not self-medicate with drugs or alcohol. The quantity of consumed substances does not rise during stressful days or intense sessions: Burnout and Self Care.
- What is the impact on you when sessions leave you unsettled because they did not go as you had hoped?
When sessions leave me unsettled, I feel disappointed but use it as an opportunity for self-reflection and growth. I analyze what went wrong and how I can improve next time.
- How do you deal with sessions in which you recognize that you have missed some important client signals?
When I recognize that I missed essential client signals, I address it by acknowledging my oversight and seeking to correct my approach. I prioritize learning from the experience to avoid similar mistakes in the future.
- Even if exhausted, when you leave work, do you feel satisfied that you have worked hard and to the best of your ability? Or do you feel dizzy with exhaustion, nearly unable to function or incapable of functioning in your personal world?
Even when exhausted, I feel satisfied that I’ve worked hard to the best of my ability. Although fatigue can sometimes be overwhelming, I feel fulfilled knowing that I have tried as much as possible.
- Do you watch other people in their jobs and assume they are happier or more fulfilled than you are?
I occasionally observe others at their workplace and ask myself if they are happier or more content than I am. But then I remembered that we all are unique, and people may look as happy as they want to, but it might not reflect their true feelings.
- Do you have intrusive thoughts during a session, wishing you were somewhere else, doing something else?
Sometimes, I experience intrusive thoughts of being in other places or doing different things. To avoid being distracted by those thoughts, I attempt to bring my attention back to the particular session that is going on.
- Do you have angry outbursts at home or with the people whom you love and who love you, seemingly for no reason?
I do not have angry outbursts for no reason, but when stress builds up, I try to express my feelings constructively. Open communication helps prevent frustration from spilling over into my personal life.
- Do you daydream about being able to retire from your profession or move on to doing something different with your life at a time in the future, perhaps the very near future?
Occasionally, I imagine myself as a retiree or fantasize about changing careers altogether. Nonetheless, I aim to avoid a tendency to constantly anticipate something more than what I am doing at any one time and appreciate the job that I am doing.
- Are you often late for work? Do you take the opportunity to call in sick when nothing is seriously wrong?
I am punctual and rarely call in sick unless necessary. I take my professional obligations seriously and prioritize maintaining a consistent work schedule.
- Have you experienced a large fluctuation in your weight recently (either gain or loss)?
I have not experienced a significant fluctuation in my weight recently. I maintain a healthy lifestyle.
- Do you feel that no one really understands what you go through at work? Do you long for someone to be able to understand what you cope with day in and day out?
Sometimes, I feel that others may not fully understand my work challenges. Connecting with someone who can empathize with the daily struggles can be comforting.
- Do you have trouble falling asleep or sleeping through the night? Do you need medication to help you sleep?
I do not have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. I can rest well without needing medication.
