The three things I like about the Boston Early Childhood Education (ECE) curriculum are its assessment, poem and song list, and pacing calendar. The Boston ECE  assessment requires that the kindergarten student does not receive a fall report card. The rubric is quite advanced, capturing everything about learning, from physical and emotional to social and subject development. Grades range from B, meaning beginning and needing significant support, D for developing to demonstrate growth, E for established confidence and independence, and G for going beyond, representing a learner exceeding kindergarten level expectations ((Boston Public Schools Department of Early Childhood 1).

The songs and poem list also match the children’s standards, enhancing learning and interaction among the students. For instance, poems such as “ten little fingers” and songs such as “if you are happy and you know it” encourage learning among children, especially in identifying body parts and emotions such as happiness. Finally, I love the pacing calendar. It encompasses all aspects of a child’s life, from family to friends to colors (Boston Public Schools Department of Early Childhood 1). The reason for liking these three is that they promote learning, thus ensuring a child is an all-around student and, most specifically, support the learner’s emotional development. However, I am not fond of remote learning, focus resources, and vocabulary cards as they look too complex for a kindergartener.

Boston’s early childhood learning curriculum assessment rubric is slightly similar to California’s, with a minimal difference. California ECE curriculum focuses on five domains: language and literacy, social-emotional development, mathematics, and English-language development (Cpin.us, 12). In contrast, the Boston ECE curriculum focuses on more than five domains: arts, sciences, maths, social and emotional development, literacy and language, writing, social studies, and physical development. Finally, California and Boston emphasize focus as the primary way of closing the gap between learners. They use almost the same resources, books, and even articles.
