The blind spot is a region within the retina that lacks photoreceptors. The lack of photoreceptors means it does not process any visual information. This kind of blind spot in the eye is anatomically normal. However, other factors, such as various eye diseases, including glaucoma and macular degeneration, put one at higher risk of blind spots and temporary or permanent vision loss and blindness (Supuran, 2019). Diseases that affect the optic nerve and brain functions and compromise the structural integrity of the eye, such as diabetes, stroke, and optic neuritis, risk the development of blind spots. Injuries to the eyes or head, such as ocular and forehead trauma, also risk the development of blind spots and vision impairment (Hoskin et al., 2019).

Methods

The main aim of the experiment was to map the blind spot of the right eye. I conducted the right eye blind spot using The Online Cognition Lab. To conduct the test, you will first need to log in to the CogLab website at CogLab: Blind Spot (cengage.com) to access the Online Cognition Lab. I then logged in to the CogLab website and placed my face in front of the computer screen in a position that ensured I could see the full screen of the lab. I covered my left eye and kept my right eye on the small blue square. I then moved my head towards the screen to a distance of about 30cm and fixed my right eye on the blue square. I repeated the experiment 19 times while taking note of the behavior of the black rectangle, the small blue square, and the yellow dot. We offer quality assignment help.

Results

During the trials, I noticed that the color of the blue square shifted to a green-like color. I also noticed that the yellow dot did appear once on the left side of the screen and disappeared as it neared the center. It reappeared when it was blurry as it crossed to the rightmost side of the screen.

Summary

The results observed were unexpected. I did not expect to have a point where my eyesight appears blurry since I have never had any eye problems. Of surprise during the experiment is how the color of the blue square changed from blue to greenish and how the dot always appeared and disappeared at the same point during each trial. It felt like an optical illusion. This experiment and the results could have been affected by the size of the screen and the dot, my visual acuity, and my age. The viewing distance and eye position also affect online blind spot experiments (Li et al., 2020).
