Bioethical Issues

Bioethical Issues

All persons are created in God’s image, giving them a dignity that cannot be diminished (Stahl, D., & Kilner, 2017). Human beings are inherently valuable. They are worthy of respect and dignity. There are two ways of viewing the value of human beings: essentialist and functional view of value. The available theory opines that individuals’ abilities determine their value (Grand Canyon University, 2020). A healthcare professional’s ability to comfort dying patients is a valuable contribution to society. The essentialist view regards individuals as intrinsically worthy of value (Grand Canyon University, 2020). Accordingly, this is compatible with Christian values. My Position on Controversial Bioethical Issues

I believe that human beings are inherently valuable. They deserve dignity and respect. I also think it is wrong to end the life of other people. God created all life and is the only one who can take life in His time. Accordingly, the Ten Commandments clearly state that ‘do not commit murder.’ In addition, human life is sacred. Thus, I consider abortion an act that goes against the value of human life. Abortion is the killing of an unborn child. Human beings have intrinsic value since they are created in God’s image. I also believe that God is the giver of life, and hence, designer babies are morally unacceptable to me.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I am a Christian guided by the Bible. As a Christian, I believe that all human beings are created in the image and likeness of God. Therefore, I am against controversial issues such as abortion and designer babies. Abortion is the killing of an unborn child. Essentially, life begins at conception, and hence, abortion is murder.
