I am Luis Nomar Martinez Nieve, working in one of Walmart’s retail stores. Lately, we have experienced performance issues at our store which need to be addressed. I am writing to request an opportunity to lead a high-performance team in our store.

I am confident that I possess the leadership skills required to lead a high-performing team. Firstly, I believe relationship building is the cornerstone of a productive team. Besides improving productivity, employee engagement through relationship building reduces quality defects and absenteeism. Another leadership competence that will go a long way to bolster performance is agility and adaptability. Agility refers to coping with the ever-changing business environment and developing strategies to help the organization thrive amid the changes. Thirdly, innovation and creativity are crucial in a leader. Through innovative imagination, I will create ideas to improve service delivery at the store.

Coaching and effective feedback provision will also improve performance. Firstly, performance coaching seeks to align employees with organizational objectives. Apart from helping individuals perform better, performance coaching improves overall motivation and commitment to tasks. I will also use supervisory feedback to guide employees toward improving their performance. I will hold one-on-one meetings with team members to deliver feedback to employees.

Asking team members to improve performance is not enough. Therefore, I will use the GROW coaching framework to improve performance. The model may be applied through meetings, conversations, and daily leadership actions to enhance performance. To use the model, the first thing is to evaluate the company’s goals and aspirations against the current business environment (internal and external obstacles). The next step is to examine whether the available resources are sufficient to facilitate the improvements. Finally, team members are given tasks and monitored to facilitate individual accountability.
