BCaBA Handbook and Fieldwork Requirements
The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) entails certification in behavior analysis at the graduate level (BCBA, 2022). The requirements for BCaBA certification entail four pathways. In every pathway, the candidate must have a degree, supervised fieldwork, behavior-analytic content, and pass the certification examination for BCaBA (BCBA, 2022). In the first pathway, called Degree from ABAI-Recognized Program or ABAI-Accredited Program, the candidate must have a Master’s degree or degree higher than that from an ABAI-Recognized degree program on behavior analysis. They must have graduated in 2015 or later. They should also have practical experience in fieldwork in applied behavior analysis.
The second pathway is called Behavior-Analytic Coursework (BCA). In this pathway, the candidate must have a graduate degree level, BCA, in addition to practical fieldwork applied behavior analysis experience. The third pathway is Faculty Teaching and Research. In this pathway, a graduate degree is required, as well as faculty research and teaching and practical fieldwork experience in applied behavior analysis. The last pathway is postdoctoral experience. This pathway requires a doctoral-level degree, a postdoctoral-level applied behavior analysis experience, and also practical fieldwork experience in applied behavior analysis (BCBA, 2022). In addition, a degree that has been attained outside the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and the United States needs to go through degree equivalency evaluation to show that it is equal to the master’s degree or higher in the United States.
My setting will be Behavioral Health Works, Inc. (BHW). BHW (2022) assists persons with developmental disabilities, such as autism, to attain their potential through collaborating with relevant professionals, schools, and families. The organization focuses on the manner in which people respond to their surroundings (behavior) and also gives opportunities for people to learn certain specifics and observable ways, resulting in positive aftermath in terms of health (BHW, 2022).
