Aviation-Precipitation

Precipitation is water in its liquid or frozen state that falls to the earth from the skies. Precipitation takes various forms, including snow, rain, or sleet. Precipitation is part of the water cycle, which occurs with the help of condensation and evaporation. Precipitation starts in the clouds, where water droplets condense and grow into large droplets. The droplet’s condensation process enables cloud formation until it can fall fast. This makes it possible for the condensed droplets to fall without barring from updrafts supporting clouds (USGS, 2019).

When the water droplets become heavy enough, they fall to the ground as rain. The water droplets freeze into ice if the cloud’s temperature is lower. The ice falls as snow or hail. However, the crystals may become liquid if the temperature between the cloud and the earth increases significantly (USGS, 2019).

Water that results from precipitation is fresh. This principle applies to areas where evaporation from naturally salty water bodies supports the water cycle. However, the freshwater that occurs from precipitation could be contaminated midair. The primary pollutants include acid, which causes acid rain. Acid rain heightens the acidity of water bodies and harms the entire ecosystem because adaptation to new water conditions is impossible (USGS, 2019).

Precipitation is measured in inches. The periodic measures may range from hourly to annually. For instance, fog may average at 0.005 inches per hour, mist at 0.002 inches, drizzles at 0.01 inches, light rain at 0.04 inches, moderate rain at 0.15 inches, heavy rain at 0.6 inches, excessive rain at 1.6 inches, and cloudbursts at 4 inches per hour (USGS, 2019). These measures vary from one region to another because the other aspects of climate play a determinant role. In aviation, precipitation could affect safety due to poor visibility, inaccurate measurements, stagnant water in runways, and mechanical issues (Cao, Wu, & Xu, 2014).

Question

The Evolution of Meteorology – After researching meteorology’s history, formulate a short essay summarizing a significant event in the timeline and how that event impacted the evolution of meteorology as a science.
Weather’s Importance in Everyday Life and Aviation – First, formulate a general definition and description of ONE of the seven weather elements: pressure, temperature, humidity, wind, clouds, precipitation, or visibility. Include descriptive information such as its variation in time and space, relevant terminology, conventions, standard units of measure, etc. Then, summarize one or more impacts of the weather element(s) on everyday life OR aviation operations.

Initial Post
By the fourth day of the module, formulate and post a roughly 200-word essay that briefly addresses the discussion points provided for the topic. Identify the title of the topic at the top of your essay.

Include a graphic or video within your post (do not attach) that helps visualize some aspect of your initial post discussion.

To include a YouTube video, paste the URL into your post or embed the video using the Embed app on the toolbar.
Review the Canvas resource to embed images from the web directly into the discussion post; how do I embed an image in a discussion reply as a student? (Canvas Community) (Links to an external site.)
(Links to an external site.)If you have trouble embedding the image into your post, you can insert the image URL directly.
For your initial post only: Before making your initial post to the discussion forum, submit a file containing your initial post in the Module 1 Discussion – Initial Post Originality Check assignment on the next page of the module to check your work’s originality. Then, return to this discussion forum and submit your initial post.
