Article – Nursing Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship in nursing continues to receive growing attention in the finance pathways. The growing base of scholarly research in healthcare and the escalating number of innovative enterprises underline global efforts toward profit maximization in healthcare-related businesses (Jakobsen et al., 2021). Nursing skills and expertise provide many opportunities for nurses to venture into healthcare-related businesses.
As a psychiatric nurse, my passion has always been to provide high-quality and effective psychiatric care to diverse patients. In my pursuit to become an excellent psychiatric nurse, I have learned to intertwine my caring skills, zeal, and expertise with business acumen to help me establish financial freedom. By monetizing my services while maintaining the normative standards and ethics guiding nursing practice, I will be able to meet the needs of my patients while profiting from the venture (Silva et al., 2023). I aspire to expand my business acumen skills and other interpersonal skills, such as effective communication, to enhance my chances of excelling in my entrepreneurial goals.
In the modern healthcare landscape, where healthcare challenges such as poor access to healthcare persist, becoming a nurse entrepreneur is important. Nurse entrepreneurs help in filling apparent care gaps in the healthcare system (Thepna et al., 2023). Entrepreneurship empowers nurses to utilize their skills and knowledge base in healthcare to provide care to communities having challenges accessing healthcare services. This is especially accurate in remote areas where access to healthcare is hindered due to proximity. This highlights why nurse entrepreneurship is important.
Nurse entrepreneurship roles are diverse. Nurses can find entrepreneurial roles in influencing, legal consultancy, education services, blogging, public speaking, and tutorship. An example of a nurse entrepreneur is a health blogger. A nurse blogger plays a role in sharing evidence-based information with the audience. In a world where social media dictates information sharing, health bloggers play a role in ensuring accurate information is accessed by diverse groups. They can help bridge gaps in medical information sharing by demystifying common myths on common health concepts and guaranteeing access to accurate medical information.
In their entrepreneurial endeavors, several concepts have been developed to improve nursing efficiency in their business ventures. Cost-saving is one of the innovative concepts integral to nursing entrepreneurship. It involves utilizing problem-solving skills to reduce expenses while maintaining high-quality healthcare services. This includes market forecasting to identify priority areas and eliminate wastage (Awad et al., 2024).
Cost-saving in nursing entrepreneurship can help improve health outcomes. It allows the utilization of cost-effective interventions in healthcare operationalizations. Through cost-effective analysis, nurse entrepreneurs compare the cost impact of diverse healthcare interventions affecting similar care outcomes and discern which interventions produce maximal benefits to the patients (Awad et al., 2024). This helps prevent procedure duplications and allows the nurse to apply interventions that optimize the health and clinical outcomes of the patients. Accordingly, this highlights the significance of cost-saving in nursing entrepreneurship.
Educative approaches can be used to expand the cost-saving ability of aspiring and active nurse entrepreneurs. In these educational approaches, nurses can be educated on the benefits of cost-saving, various cost-saving skills, and how they can perform a cost-effective analysis. They can also be educated on the best practices in nursing entrepreneurship to enhance their ability to critically analyze the care environment and prioritize the care needs of the patients and expenses required to offset the presenting care challenges. This can help expand the cost-saving ability among nurse entrepreneurs.
In summary, nursing entrepreneurship remains important in the perpetuation of nursing care. It helps in bridging apparent gaps in healthcare. To be excellent entrepreneurs, nurses must be proactive in cost-saving. Notably, cost saving will help them lower their expenses while maintaining high-quality care provision to their patients.
