Application of Artificial Intelligence at Samsung

Change is an important part of an organization’s growth. This project will focus on the integration of Artificial Intelligence into Samsung Company’s operations. The project is intended to improve quality control at Samsung Company. The main parts of the project include the history of Samsung Company and its operations, the problem the innovation idea will address, the technology integration components, and the solution scenario as exemplified by the customer or end-user population it will serve.

General Description of the Kind of Organization For Which the Project Is Intended

Samsung Company is an international electronics organization specializing in producing consumer electronic devices. The company joined the electronics industry in the 1970s when it started exporting home electronic products to different countries (Kraar, 2022). In the early 1980s, the company expanded into electronics and semiconductors, and in 1978, it began production in aerospace. In 1985, the company established Samsung Data Systems (SDS) to facilitate the development of systems needed to sustain operations (Kraar, 2022). SDS played a vital role in the company’s growth in information technology. The company also opened two research and development facilities to develop genetic engineering tools, semiconductors, nanotechnology, telecommunications, high-polymer chemicals, and electronics. Currently, the company competes with Apple, Nokia, and Sony. Despite stiff competition, the company has secured a large global market share because it focuses on providing high-quality, affordable products.

Description of Problem/Opportunity the Innovative Idea Will Address

The problem that the innovative idea will address is quality issues at Samsung Company. The company has been receiving customer complaints due to poor quality electronics. For example, in 2016, the company suspended shipments of the Galaxy Note 7 phones due to complaints about the company’s phones( Jung-a, 2016). Currently, the company is being investigated in the United States because of many customer complaints about Samsung refrigerators. Additionally, according to IANS (2022), customers have complained about Samsung refrigerators’ safety since 2020. By July 2022, the company had received 471 complaints (IANS, 2022). Therefore, the company should focus on improving its quality assurance process because the complaints negatively impact its reputation and performance.

Overview Of The Technology Integration Components

Artificial intelligence will be integrated into quality assurance through pilot and data annotation and testing, and validation. In pilot and data annotation, the quality assurance team identifies the tests that should be done and what should be accomplished. The team can then set the objectives and scope of testing by collecting the required information. According to Numan (2019), testing methods should be selected based on the project’s scope so that artificial intelligence algorithms and models can be used during product testing. Testing and validation include developing test algorithms and selecting a part of the training data for test validation. The training data is then applied in a scenario to evaluate the performance of the artificial intelligence models to get predictive results consistently and accurately (Numan, 2019). Artificial intelligence fits the needs of Samsung Company because it will help determine product defects before the products are launched, thus reducing quality-related complaints. Samsung can also use artificial intelligence during software upgrades and machine learning algorithms to detect changes in functionality.

Product Or Solution Scenario As Exemplified By Customer Or End-User Population It Will Serve

Artificial intelligence will help to identify product defects, such as the quality issues in the company’s phones and safety issues in the Samsung refrigerators. The company can then focus on eliminating the issues and provide warranties that customers can use to replace the product if they experience the predicted quality issues. Artificial intelligence will also be used to predict weak spots to help engineers understand what they should focus on to improve product quality based on past incidents. Artificial intelligence will also help the company release well-researched products by enabling engineers and the production team to compare software and similar apps to determine the factors that can increase market success by enhancing value proposition. The end user will also have access to reliable electronics because the products will be tested to identify defects and eliminate quality issues that could hinder reliability.
