Analyzing a Human Resource Management Position- Functional Area, Desired Traits, and Skill Development

The advertisement that interested me was for the position of hospital administrator II in Los Angeles County, advertised on Indeed.com.

The rationale for my interest in this position is embedded in the fact that I’m pursuing a course in healthcare administration, and the position lies within my field of expertise. I am motivated to occupy this position, which will enable me to positively enhance health outcomes for patients and solve challenges faced in practice.

A functional area is a team of employees possessing similar skills and expertise who are tasked with particular business functions. The functional areas within human resource management for healthcare administrators include hiring and retaining employees, staff training, organizing employees to perform daily tasks, and monitoring staff compliance with laws and regulations (Morlock, 2018). These functions are appealing to me as they enhance quality and guarantee efficiency in the delivery of medical services.

The skills and traits expected of a healthcare administrator include good communication skills, organization, flexibility, and efficient time management. Healthcare administrators should work with a lot of discretion to promote confidentiality and compliance with ethical standards (Evans, 2020). They should also be organized and flexible because managing people and schedules requires preplanning, which can sometimes be altered depending on the hierarchy of needs. Healthcare administrators must have good communication skills since all their work involves dealing with people; they should also be good leaders who can promote a conducive environment for effective service delivery.

As a future administrator, I would like to enhance my time management skills to effectively manage the duties expected of me. To enhance my communication skills, I would like to interact with as many people as possible within and outside of the occupation. To do that, I intend to go for an internship where diversity is embraced. I would also like to enhance my leadership skills through volunteering and starting movements and campaigns that promote public health.
