Analysis of Emerging Health Care Trends that Influence Clinical Decision-Making
Hello. My name is AN.O. Today’s video presents an analysis of emerging trends in healthcare driven by advancements in technology that have significantly impacted clinical decision-making. I will discuss how trends such as Artificial intelligence (AI), big data and analytics, data security, digital therapeutics, telehealth, and remote patient monitoring influence or impact decision-making from a local, national, and global perspective, impact on patient access to healthcare and treatment, and also explain how culture and diversity might impact or influence these trends. I will also show how the DNP-prepared nurse can contribute to the improvement of emerging healthcare tech trends in an increasingly complex clinical environment.
First. let me discuss how emerging trends in healthcare technology have impacted decision-making from the local, national, and global perspectives. Technologies such as AI have been shown to integrate with telehealth, big data and analytics, and remote patient monitoring support real-time data collection, analysis, and sharing to increase diagnostic accuracy at the point of care, and in the management of hospital activities (Hee Lee & Yoon, 2021). Cuch tech trends are proving to be critical in decision-making at the national level, especially in the planning of public health efforts and interventions. For instance, big data has been central in the planning and design of a functional healthcare system in Taiwan (Hsu et al., 2021). Internationally, as discussed by Ye (2020), emerging trends especially in healthcare technologies such as big data, AI, 5G, telehealth, and remoting patient monitoring have proved to be pivotal in supporting decision-making as observed during the management of the COVID-19 pandemic especially in data sharing globally, and collaborations in the treatment of critical patients, tracking and managing the health status of residents, and in supporting isolation of suspected patients.
Besides supporting decision-making in healthcare, emerging trends in healthcare have been impactful in promoting patient access to healthcare and treatment. Telehealth and telemedicine as we have observed during the COVID-19 pandemic have helped overcome barriers to access such lockdowns, evidence has shown that telehealth services help overcome geographical and transport barriers to access to healthcare, especially in remote regions(Boxer & Ellimoottil, 2019).
However, such trends face various challenges within healthcare settings. Social factors such as culture and diversity significantly impact or influence these trends. For instance, as we know, some cultures hold a negative view towards advanced technologies. Some cultures hold a negative view, which makes it hard to trust such technologies due to concerns over security and privacy. Such beliefs may reduce the levels of acceptance and use of such trends, leading to slow adoption and advancement. Others who desire a human-human connection may fail to find such a connection in consultations over technologies such as telehealth, thus avoiding the utilization of such technologies. Noting that the society is made of diverse age groups, some, such as the elderly in the society may lack the know-how to utilize such technologies. Therefore, it may be hard to implement their use across such age groups.
To conclude, DNP-prepared nurses, with their advanced training and specialized knowledge, are entrusted with the crucial responsibility of guiding the development and effective utilization of these rapidly emerging technologies in healthcare. This role is vital in addressing the existing challenges and fostering the widespread adoption of innovative technological trends within the ever-evolving and complex clinical landscape. Leveraging their comprehensive understanding of healthcare systems and dynamics in diverse care delivery settings, DNP-prepared nurses are well-positioned to lead and advocate for the integration of these cutting-edge technologies in various capacities. Beyond merely being users, they can assume leadership roles in research endeavors aimed at elucidating the obstacles to technology adoption and devising evidence-based strategies to surmount these challenges successfully.
Additionally, DNP-prepared nurses can be extremely important by imparting knowledge and abilities to their peers which will improve their digital literacy and ability to use these technologies efficiently. Through participation in educational efforts and training programs, they can enable other nurses to maximize clinical outcomes by utilizing tools like as artificial intelligence and big data analytics. Moreover, they play a crucial role in guaranteeing the ethical application of these technologies, advocating for the norms of responsible and moral behavior while employing AI-powered systems for data gathering, patient data administration, and general healthcare enhancement. Fundamentally, DNP-prepared nurses advocate for revolutionary change while maintaining the greatest standards of patient care and ethical conduct, acting as catalysts for the incorporation of technological developments into clinical practice.
