American Association of Nurse Practitioners

American Association of Nurse Practitioners

A.A.N.P. is an organization that is American based that was formed in the year 2013 through the union of two associations, including the American College of Nurse Practitioners and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. The union created a network among the nurses to enable them to advocate for nursing-related issues. The American Association of Nurse Practitioners represents the interests of around three hundred and twenty-five thousand licensed nurses. The association advocates for recognizing nurses as quality healthcare providers across the federal, state, and local levels (“A.A.N.P. | The American Association of Nurse Practitioners,” 2021). It emphasizes nurses’ role in providing cost-friendly, personalized, and quality healthcare service. The association advocates for the educational advancement of nurse practitioners and limiting barriers to cost-effective and quality healthcare for patients, including those with pre-existing comorbidities such as diabetes.

The organization follows the steps outlined by Patton et al. (2018) to formulate and implement the policies. The steps include the development of human resources to advance healthcare universally, identification of stakeholders such as the leaders of the A.A.N.P., identification of gaps in healthcare access, identification of goals and priorities, development of guideline tools for the implementation process, networking for the expansion of learning opportunities and finally, evaluation and monitoring of the implemented policies. For instance, the organization presented its priorities regarding patient care to the federal government. Among the priorities they included improving Medicaid coverage to enhance healthcare access to Medicaid patients, authorization of diabetic patients to access therapeutic shoes, and Telehealth reimbursement to nurse practitioners.

Through the A.A.N.P. policies, there is improved healthcare access, especially in semi-urban and rural areas. Secondly, there is improved quality of healthcare across all regions. Thirdly, there is a decreased cost of treatment because the organization advocates for expanding Medicaid coverage (“Issues at a Glance: Full Practice Authority,” 2021). Patient rights are markedly improved because the organization aims to provide patient-centered care. The organization, therefore, continues collaborating with other organizations to advocate for equal healthcare access to all American citizens.
