Affiliation Comparison and Miller’s IAF Worksheet
Instructions:
Use this worksheet to help you evaluate affiliation considerations for three affiliation candidates: Mayo Clinic, Intermountain Healthcare, and an organization of your choice. Based on the results of the affiliation comparison, you will select the best organization for affiliation. Once the affiliation candidate has been selected, assess the potential impact the selected organization will have on TPMC using Miller’s Impact Assessment Framework: Affiliation Comparison and Miller’s IAF Worksheet.
Affiliation Comparison
For this section of the assignment, research the organizations listed and answer the questions in the given table. See the “Engage” portion of assignment 3 in the course for guidance on how to research each organization.
| Strategic Topics | Mayo Clinic | Intermountain Healthcare | Institution of Your Choice |
| 1. Community goals
How will an affiliation with each organization ensure service access and patient satisfaction, as well as promote and deliver health services to meet emerging demographic and market needs? |
Mayo Clinic organizes its patient care services to deliver high-quality treatment services that serve individual patients (Mayo Clinic, 2020). Directly aligning services will expand TPMC’s care delivery range because it will access Mayo’s specialized medical and research experience for underserved populations. | Prevention services and community health initiatives constitute the core focus at IHC (Intermountain Healthcare, 2020). Through affiliation, TPMC would pursue its mission to enhance healthcare accessibility for rural communities that need improved medical services. | By using an integrated care model, Kaiser Permanente concentrates on delivering both preventive care and population health management services (Kaiser Permanente, n.d.). The affiliation with TPMC and Kaiser Permanente would enable expansion while helping to produce better care results for patients thanks to Kaiser’s managed care skills. |
| 2. Strategic plans
What are the critical elements for each affiliation? Do the initiatives mesh well together? |
The strategic plans of the Mayo Clinic center on innovative measures while promoting research activities and specialized care access expansion (Mayo Clinic, 2020). TPMC’s service improvement targets converge with its mission to create better clinical results. | Value-based care, together with cost reduction measures and population health improvements, represent the core elements of IHC’s strategic objectives. The strategy matches TPMC’s financial responsibility goals which promote equal care delivery for patients. | Kaiser Permanente’s strategic directives concentrate on producing integrated medical treatment alongside preventive health initiatives with streamlined operational costs. TPMC supports its mission of cost reduction alongside quality care delivery standards. |
| 3. Clinical services, quality, and outcomes
How will affiliates collaborate to achieve the goals for improving clinical services and quality? How will an affiliation with each organization govern the delivery of existing programs and services, develop new services, enhance major service lines, expand geographic reach, and increase the quality of care while reducing costs? |
TPMC can extend its hospital-based programs by joining with Mayo Clinic, which gives access to state-of-the-art research and specialized care practitioner expertise alongside medical best practices guidance. A governance structure would unite joint quality improvement efforts and implement shared service standards across two organizations. Mayo’s telehealth services, together with specialized centers, would stretch TPMC’s service locations beyond current boundaries while its data platform approach would improve medical care and cut expenses. | Through a partnership, IHC could introduce value-based care models that focus on preventive health patient safety along with population management. Through collaboration, both entities would implement evidence-based practices and enhance their telehealth capabilities and chronic disease management programs. Operational efficiency with governance would enable broader telemedicine coverage and rural health outreach service development to improve access for patients while enhancing both quality and cost-effectiveness. | TPMC would integrate preventive care with population health programs under an affiliation agreement with Kaiser Permanente. Through collaboration, Kaiser’s team approach and data-based decision systems would help enhance clinical success rates. Governance at TPMC would direct efforts toward enhancing current programs alongside the preparation of wellness and population health expansion and achievement of efficient managed care framework operations. |
| 4. Clinical and staff commitments and support
What kind of clinical expertise (e.g., medical specialties) does each organization offer? How will clinical expertise be utilized across the affiliation to achieve the goals? |
At Mayo Clinic, medical experts specialize in treating both unusual and complicated health conditions (Mayo Clinic, 2020). Through an affiliation TPMC staff members could obtain Mayo’s clinical knowledge and benefit from their training programs. | At IHC, staff development programs combine with clinical excellence to serve as their core commitments. Through an affiliation, TPMC staff members can enhance their professional development while gaining access to IHC clinical resources. | As part of its integrated model, Kaiser Permanente focuses on delivering healthcare through multidisciplinary teams. Through an affiliation TPMC staff would receive training on population health management and preventive care programs. |
| 5. Facilities, IT, and other capital commitments
How will facilities and technical support be utilized across the affiliation to achieve the goals? |
Mayo Clinic operates with state-of-the-art facilities accompanied by its advanced IT infrastructure. TPMC would gain access to both Mayo Clinic technology and infrastructure under affiliation status, which would increase operational efficiency. | The healthcare information system of IHC is developed properly while they embrace telehealth programs. Defining an alliance will improve IT capabilities throughout TPMC and increase telehealth service capabilities across rural areas. | Kaiser Permanente demonstrates robust IT systems alongside its commitment to care decisions based on data. Through affiliation, TPMC can improve its information technology base to support data-driven operational decisions. |
| 6. Mission, vision, and values
What are the critical elements of the mission, vision, and values for each organization? Where is there alignment? Where is there misalignment? |
Mayo Clinic exists to inspire hope while making contributions to the health and well-being of patients. Although capturing TPMS’s patient-centered approach, the organization differs from TPMC regarding research interest. | Through its mission IHC aims to assist people in achieving their best possible health outcomes (Intermountain Healthcare, n.d.). IHC’s values reflect the community health and equitable care activities TPMC prioritizes. | As part of its mission, Kaiser Permanente desires to deliver high-quality healthcare that remains affordable for patients (Kaiser Permanente, n.d.). The organization’s values match TPMC’s commitment to fair care; however, its care management system operates divergently from TPMC’s community-based model. |
| 7. Culture
What are the cultural implications of each organization’s mission, vision, and value statements? What are the defining cultural aspects of each? What challenges or advantages do these cultures present? |
At Mayo Clinic, collaborative work practices and patient-orientated care function alongside intensive research approaches and innovative activities (Mayo Clinic, 2020). Together, TPMC and Mayo Clinic share a patient-first culture, yet their research priorities maintain distinct approaches. | Teamwork alongside fiscal responsibility combined with community health serve as core principles that guide IHC’s workplace culture (Intermountain Healthcare, 2020). With these values, TPMC maintains a culture that prioritizes local healthcare delivery along with financial discipline. | Integrated care, along with preventive services, forms the cultural foundation at Kaiser Permanente (Kaiser Permanente, n.d.). The managed care model represents a difference between TPMC and Kaiser Permanente, although both organizations share a patient-first organization philosophy. |
| 8. Employees
What strengths or limitations does each organization bring that will affect your plan for retaining executives, managers, and employees? |
The workforce at the Mayo Clinic consists mainly of experts who focus on research activities (Mayo Clinic, 2020). An affiliation will give TPMC staff opportunities for professional growth; however, they may need cultural adjustments to match up with Mayo’s standards. | All employees at IHC demonstrate both staunch dedication to neighborhood wellness and support for value-based medical methods. The workforce would match TPMC’s structure while possibly necessitating modifications to include IHC’s team-organizational model. | Kaiser Permanente trains all its employees to deliver preventive care and population health services (Kaiser Permanente, n.d.). Through an affiliation the staff of TPMC would obtain new skills but would need to update current practices to match the managed care approach of Kaiser. |
