Advanced Nursing Practice

Advanced nursing practice involves the utilization of knowledge and skills from the basic training program along with advanced knowledge in specialized areas from high tertiary education levels such as post-graduate degrees such as master’s and doctorate. Nurses in this category have broader knowledge bases on specified areas compared to those who have only completed the basic training. They include nurse anesthetists, palliative care nurses, intensive care unit nurses, renal nurses, theatre nurses, and many more (Boehning & Punsalan, 2023).

Advanced Practice Nurse

Advanced practice nurse is a functional title for a registered nurse who has undergone specialized training after completion of the basic nurse training program. In most cases, they lie at the master’s and doctoral levels. Their scope delves into the provision of highly specialized care under four main roles in the clinical setting. Firstly, the nurse practitioners provide diagnoses and manage conditions under their specialty. Secondly, the scope of clinical nurse specialists stems from the urge to research the improvement of care delivery modalities and the implementation of their findings that are justifiable by the best available evidence. Thirdly, certified registered nurse anesthetists with advanced skills revolve around surgical procedures for pre-, intra, and post-operation anesthesia. Lastly, certified nurse midwives have a specialty in care provision to gynecological and reproductive health services such as family planning, antenatal services, delivery, and puerperium care (Boehning & Punsalan, 2023).

From the above definitions, it is state justice that advanced nursing practice (ANP) is distinguished from advanced practice nurse (APN). ANP is the act of providing specialized care, while APN refers to a nurse who is certified to provide specialized care.

The Roles in Advanced Practice Nursing

Patient care should be holistic to address spiritual, emotional, physical, psychological, and social needs. To achieve these aspects of care, advanced nurse practitioners assume their roles in different settings in collaboration with other health professionals, as outlined below. For instance, in clinical practice, nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists assess, diagnose, and manage complex patient conditions holistically. Secondly, advanced nurse practitioners provide primary care in the management of patients who require comprehensive care from their specialty and act as the link to healthcare access for their patients. Thirdly, ANPs assume educative roles where they educate nursing students, design curricula, and explore alternative ways towards the betterment of healthcare systems. Fourthly, the advanced knowledge acquired by APNs places them in ideal positions to effectively assume the administrative functions of overseeing, policing, staff management, and enforcing regulatory standards. Lastly, ANPs have vital roles as health informatics who conduct data analyses and facilitate the implementation of electronic health systems to improve patient care (Boehning & Punsalan, 2023).

The Role Intended to Be Acquired

The role I intend to acquire is Family Nurse Practitioner. Family Nurse Practitioners (FNPs) are specialized nurses who function independently to care for families in diversified settings (Dantas et al., 2023). They diagnose and treat conditions that affect their clients. Irrespective of their autonomy in healthcare decision-making, they may collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide holistic care. In my clinical area setting, I have acquired clinical skills to assess patients, drug prescriptions, and how to carry out procedures. It is within my greatest desire to achieve job satisfaction, with full control over my decisions. The autonomy practiced by FNPs boosts my zeal to become a Family Practitioner Nurse through the South University Online (SOU). The broad knowledge concerning patient advocacy, current healthcare trends, and interdisciplinary collaboration forms the basis of my urge. I have distinct qualities in team playing, excellent communication skills, self-drive, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, patience and resilience, and most importantly, culturally competent skills. These skills act as prominent validators in line with the competencies of a Family Nurse Practitioner (Dantas et al., 2023). Besides, my philosophy is to foster therapeutic relationships with patients, promote health promotion, use evidence-based practice, and promote health equity.

Interview with an Advanced Family Nurse Practitioner

In my advancing journey, I focus on establishing a good mentorship image from a well-known family nurse practitioner by the name Lynne Taylor Lynne Taylor, an MSN, APRN, and FNP-C, designated to operate in Riverview, Florida. She graduated from the Chamberlain College of Nursing with a bachelor of science in nursing. Currently a holder of MSN, APRN, AND FNP-C.To quench my curiosity concerning the family nurse practitioner, I intend to interview Lynne Taylor on the 4th of June, 2024, to address some set of questions. Conclusion

In conclusion, personal factors, passion, and career goals influence decision-making concerning career choices. For instance, in our case, personal experiences, skills acquired, personal philosophy, and motivating factors greatly influence the choice of the family practitioner role.
