Often, in our daily practice of healthcare as nurses, we always encounter non-compliant patients who do not follow the simple instructions given to them. Handling such patients is always frustrating and challenging as this always leads to delays in problem resolution. Healthcare professionals should always strive for a better understanding of these patients and their perception of the treatment, determination of the impact of treatment on the life of the patient, and patient education regarding the continuity of the treatment (Cortellini et al., 2019). The plan to help these patients, including Alma Faulkenberger, includes the elevation of the caregiver’s attitude toward the patients. Nurses should work with the patients from a biopsychosocial approach rather than rely heavily on the traditional biomedical approach by accepting patients holistically as entitled partners. Emphasis should be placed on the consistency of treatment and follow-up programs, including family members in patients’ education programs, and simplifying the treatment regime for the patient. Finally, nurses should give a logical explanation of the treatment approach or intervention (Settineri et al.,2019).

The suitable approach to education for the non-compliant patient is through patient empowerment on what and why.
