Reflection on INTASC Standard 7: Planning for Instruction
Describe
The selected artifact is the “1st Grade Addition Inquiry Project,” written on 24th February 2024 as part of the EDC 715. The artifact was designed for first-grade students to increase their focus on addition through meaningful use of classroom activities. The process involved in this project is a sequential set of modified games like the Ladybug Game, Butterfly Addition, and the Bug Jar Addition, all of which are tweaked to fit the learner’s different abilities. The artifact utilizes a hands-on approach by using items such as dice, toy bugs, and buttons to help students solve addition problems: Reflection on INTASC Standard 7: Planning for Instruction.
Analyze
The artifact connects with INTASC Standard #7: Planning for Instruction, encompassing cross-disciplinary skills and instruction sequences for different learning requirements. This connection is evident in the lesson plan’s integration of literacy and science to teach mathematics. For example, the students read and count an array of flowers, connecting numbers with literacy (Knowledge and Understanding 7(j)).
The artifact also aligns with Performance 7(c): “The teacher develops appropriate sequencing of learning experiences and provides multiple ways to demonstrate knowledge and skill” (CCSSO, 2011). This is illustrated by the grouping of students (Groups B, D, and M), where learning episodes are based on learner ability. For instance, Group B deals with 0-10, Group D deals with 0-15, and Group M deals with 0-20. The highlighted artifact showing the alignment of these elements is attached as evidence.
Appraise
The project reveals my teaching abilities and instructional planning development concerning differentiated students’ requirements and the cultural sensitivity of the materials used. This aligns with Rawls’s theory of justice, which emphasizes the need to equalize primary social goods for the least disadvantaged in society (Lovett, 2021). The practical style and the use of the games stimulated active learning and enhanced understanding among students, emphasizing the need to follow the student’s ability level in setting instructions (Lovett, 2021). I also learned to create an engaging learning environment by greeting learners as they enter the learning space and creating fun games to keep them active.
Transform
In the future, I would like to develop my multi-disciplinary integration strategies by providing more interdisciplinary exercises and discovering more technological resources for teaching. I also want to improve formative assessments to know how every student is progressing concerning high learning standards so that appropriate instructional adjustments can be made. The lessons learned about the standard could be incorporated into the classroom. For example, the standard has encouraged me to plan for instructions that meet the learning goals of each learner based on the context areas and curriculum.

Question
INTASC Standard Assignment #2 (worth 10 points )
PROFESSOR INSTRUCTIONS: Please post evidence (on Taskstream) for the INTASC standard listed below by the due date listed on the EDC 756 Course Outline. You will post an artifact and a reflection for the standard. Please read the standard and the rubric on Taskstream for the standard.
You must submit in the format that is explained on Taskstream. See calendar for due dates. The assignment for each standard has a different due date.
The artifact will be posted highlight the parts in the artifact that connect to the assignment. This artifact will be work you have done from a previous course that reflects the INTASC standard or it can be in the form of a video of your teaching. Please address each part of the INTASC standard for which you are posting for.
If your work does not reflect each part of the standard, that’s okay. Just tell us it does not and explain how you might address that part of the standard in the future. the reflection should be done in the following format for the artifact:
- Describe: (information gathering) What is the artifact? When was it collected? In order to ensure confidentiality do not use student or teacher full names anywhere.
- Analyze: (alignment) How does this artifact relate to the standard? Address the standard specifically.
- Appraise: (evaluation) How does this artifact demonstrate your personal and professional growth? How does it demonstrate your impact on student learning? (if applicable)
- Transform: (goal setting) Based on your answers to the first 3 reflection steps, are there specific ways you intend to use what you have learned in order to improve your teaching?
You will do this for the following InTASC Standard:
- Standard 7: Planning for Instruction
Reflection on INTASC Standard 7: Planning for Instruction
NOTES: THE PDF FOR STANDARD 7 IS DOWN BELOW CLICK THE LINK AND IT IS UPLOADED TO THE ORDER AS A SCREENSHOT AS WELL AND THE RUBRIC. THIS ASSIGNMENT IS GOING OFF OF AN ASSIGNMENT I ALREADY DID FROM A PREVIOUS COURSE THAT CONNECTS TO THE STANDARDS ON PAGE 34.
THE ASSIGNMENT IS UPLOADED TO THE ORDER THE DATE OF WHEN THE ASSIGNMENT WAS DONE IS ALSO ON THE ASSIGNMENT WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO IS HIGHLIGHT EACH SECTION IN THE ASSIGNMENT THAT CONNECTS TO SPECIFIC PARTS OF THE GENERAL STANDARD WHICH IS (Standard #7: Planning for Instruction The teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the community context.) I KNOW CROSS-DISCIPLINARY SKILLS IS ONE OF THE STANDARDS IT CONNECTS TO. (AND IT NEEDS TO CONNECT TO ONE OF THE PERFORMANCES ON PAGE 34 ON THE PDF AS WELL FOR EXAMPLE:
(7(c) The teacher develops appropriate sequencing of learning experiences and provides multiple ways to demonstrate knowledge and skill.) CAN BE THE PERFORMANCE YOU CONNECT THE ASSIGNMENT TO ALONG WITH THE STANDARD.) AND AFTER YOU HIGHLIGHT EVERYTHING ON THE ASSIGNMENT THAT CONNECTS TO THE STANDARD AND ONE OF THE PERFORMANCES ON A SEPARATE DOCUMENT
YOU ARE THEN GOING TO WRITE A REFLECTION BASED ON THE ARTIFACT YOU HIGHLIGHTED FOLLOW THE FORMAT ABOVE THAT MY PROFESSOR LISTED AS (1. DESCRIBE, 2. ANALYZE, 3. APPRAISE, 4. TRANSFORM) BE SURE TO FOLLOW THE FORMAT WHEN WRITING THE REFLECTION AND BE SURE TO HIGHLIGHT EACH PART IN THE ASSIGNMENT WHICH IS THE ARTIFACT THAT CONNECTS TO THE STANDARD AND PERFORMANCE. REMEMBER TO WRITE THE REFLECTION ON A SEPARATE DOCUMENT.
