Group Process and Practice
Overview of Group (75 words Max)
I lead a support group for adults aged 30 – 45. This group, which has 10 participants, has members who deal with chronic stress and anxiety. The group members come from different cultural backgrounds, reside in suburban areas, work in high-pressure professions, and meet once a week for 60 minutes with the main goal of developing coping strategies to enhance work-life balance and reduce anxiety. (64 Words)
Ice Breaker: (150-250 words)
On arrival, every participant will be given a small card with an image of a well-known place related to relaxation, such as a forest, mountain, beach, or cozy chair. There will be five different images, and two participants will have matching ones. Every member will be asked to find their match by locating the other participant with the same image. Once they are paired, the two will introduce themselves and share what they want to do to relax when stressed.
Once all pairs have undertaken the activity above, I will direct them to a question on the board stating, “If stress were a color, what would it look like?” The pairs will brainstorm and come up with an answer. They will present the answer and explain how stress manifests for them. Once all pairs have undertaken this activity, every group member will add their “stress color” to a drawing to create a visual representation of what they collectively represent stress. Lastly, I will use the image to transition into the group’s theme, recognizing how stress and anxiety appear and how people can work with the therapist to manage them. (189 Words).
Goal
Within 12 weeks, participants will manifest skills in stress management by practicing work-life balance and mindfulness in 4 out of 5 opportunities, as expected in the self-reported stress reduction and improvement scores on the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) test.

Question
EXAMPLE!
Overview of Group: (75 Words MAX)
I am co-leading a group of adolescents whom have suicidal ideation and/or hx of attempts with an overall goal of reducing risk factors contributing to at-risk behavior. My group is composed of 8 girls, ages 15-17, mixed cultures including White, Hispanic and African American – all from a rural community; we meet 2x/week for 40 minutes a session. (58 Words)
Ice Breaker: (150-250 Words)
As clients walk in, I will hand them an Uno card (predesigned to have 2 kind of 4 different cards). The girls will find their “partner” aka matching Uno card and together answer the riddle written on the white board after introducing themselves to each other:
Ex: You are in a race and you pass the person in second place, what place are you in now? (Answer: 2nd)
Last Riddle: If you have it, you don’t share it. If you share it, you don’t have it. What is it? (Answer: A Secret)
Group Process and Practice
I will have multiple riddles on the board for time purposes. Once I join the group after all have arrived, I will pass out candy to those who are able to answer the riddles correctly. When we approach the last riddle I will have the girls make 2 groups of 4; all having to have different Uno cards, along with finding a seat together; after a minute of working on the “last riddle” together we will come together again as a group – this will have allowed for the girls to have met with four different girls within the group and to ensure they have someone to sit beside and not be isolated, I will then utilize the “last riddle” to being discussing group and “confidentiality.” Members of which refuse to engage can either take a seat and/or simply exhibit active listening skills within their group/partnership. Goal: S-M-A-R-T; specific, measurable, attainable, realistic/relevant and time bound – This should be one sentence!!!!
Within an 8 week period clients will exhibit improved behavioral activation (healthy physical engagements, increase in social engagements, increase in physical movement…) and the implementation of healthy coping skills to reduce at risk behaviors contributing to suicidal ideation/attempts in 4 of 5 opportunities as evidenced by client self report, reduced PHQ-9 score (previously completed at their pre-meeting) and the counselors observation.
