Strategic Plan Communication Outline
Method for Communicating the Strategic Plan
Updating Vlogs on the Departments Portal
According to Pal et al. (2023), internal communications will be best passed through the department’s portal. The executive staff will update a vlog in the portal that communicates the department’s new strategic plan. To ensure all officers access the information, a feature should be incorporated to notify officers that new updates are available on the vlog.
One-on-One Communication
Police heads will also use physical meetings to communicate strategies to police officers and other internal stakeholders. The leaders will leverage squad meetings to put across important communications. Occasions such as promotions, award ceremonies, and graduations will offer effective platforms to communicate the strategic plan.
News Releases
According to Pal et al. (2023), news releases are among the most effective ways police can communicate with internal and external stakeholders. Scottsdale City Police Department will release vital communications through press releases issued to the media, schools, faith-based organizations, and other entities likely to attract large audiences. The department will also post press releases on its social media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter, to broaden the audience reached.
Video Statements
Video statements are also a good way to reach external stakeholders. These videos are like news releases, but they will be read by a senior member of the police department, and a clip will be produced and released to the media. Video statements are crucial, especially when the department needs to express empathy and indicate that they are treating the matter at hand with the seriousness it deserves.
Summary of Main Issues Addressed in the Plan and Their Importance
One of the issues that will be addressed in the plan is the anticipated incorporation of members of the public into policing activities. As mentioned in the strategic plan, the Scottsdale Police Department will implement public-oriented initiatives such as the ‘Ride Along’ program (Scottsdale Police Department, 2021). The program intends to familiarize public members with the everyday operations of the police to enhance collaborative approaches between law enforcers and the community. Also, there will be a need to address the role of members of the public in policing. For instance, the neighborhood watch program gives members of the public a proactive role in policing such that they can interrupt active offending before calling the police to the crime scene.
Influence of Stakeholders
Other than law enforcers, other critical stakeholders include city administrators, social welfare organizations, business owners, and faith-based groups. All these stakeholders play a vital role in ensuring a secure Scottsdale City. City administrators provide financial and infrastructural resources that law enforcers may use to enforce order within the city. Besides, eligible business owners can donate resources that the department may use to enforce law and order (Scottsdale Police Department, 2021). Further, faith-based organizations and community leaders will provide useful information about the locality that will aid police activity.
Potential Detractors
Negative public and media opinion is one of the potential detractors to implementing the law enforcement strategic plan. This may occur if the police use brutal force while enforcing law and order, leading to negative police sentiment in the community. Participants in community-based initiatives such as the neighborhood watch will likely withdraw if they realize that the general public no longer welcomes the initiatives. Also, criminal justice reform movements may resist enhanced policing attempts. Organizers who have been calling for police defunding may not welcome increased involvement of the police in the community.
