Exploring Leadership Theories- Personal Insights and Challenges from Weeks 1–4
The four-week journey through the LDR 711A course so far has been a great learning experience with a great impact on my personal and professional growth. Weeks 1 and 2 introduced me to the concepts of leadership and what defines a leader, including the ability to motivate others, build trust, and influence team members and individuals within an organization. The four-week course journey has also helped me understand the various types of communication and how to communicate effectively to create a positive work environment, improve staff and patient experience within care settings, and promote personal and professional growth among healthcare workers. The first two weeks have also introduced me to the SPL model, which has helped me understand how to analyze various situations in diverse practice settings to define challenges, understand how such challenges develop, and how they can be resolved. I have also gained knowledge on how I can integrate theory into practice to guide decisions, search for evidence, lead teams, and implement sustainable changes within healthcare systems, including unique health systems such as jail and prison health systems. As for the third week, I gained a deeper and better understanding of research, including questioning situations and utilizing the questions to act as a guide to search the literature to review. As I will be developing my doctoral research, I know why I will need to conduct a comprehensive review of peer-reviewed sources to strengthen my research.
Personally, it has been a great experience. I have improved my interpersonal communication. However, I found it a bit challenging to balance being a practitioner and a scholar at the same time. My work takes a lot of my time. Therefore, managing to get on with the course and pursuing this doctorate has not been easy. Luckily, the institution and the educators have been very supportive in both the studies and in personal management. This has impacted my journey as a scholar, practitioner, and leader by understanding the need to provide support to others and manage time wisely. I have understood that regardless of my level of practice, I will have something new to learn.
I plan to apply what I have learned throughout this course in my practice settings to help overcome resistance to the adoption of advanced AI-enabled medical records management systems within the Arizona Department of Corrections. I will specifically utilize concepts in the transformational leadership theory, including intellectual stimulation, individualized consideration, idealized influence, and inspirational motivation. I believe these concepts can help achieve sustainable followership, change across the department, and overcome the barriers to adopting an AI-powered medical records system.
One aspect of the material that still challenges me and that I am curious to explore further is the SPL mode. I would like to engage in continuous learning, and I would like to further explore how the concepts of the SPL model guide my learning journey. I wonder if the faculty can provide more information on the model, explain the concepts, and how I can best utilize them to guide my daily practice and learning.

Your reflection should be a thoughtful and applied narrative that weaves together your academic and real-world experiences.
Prepare a 350- to 500-word (minimum) reflection that addresses each of the following:
Describe how the concepts and discussions from Weeks 1–4 have influenced your thinking and professional stance. Were there any particular theories or ideas that challenged your existing beliefs or opened new perspectives?
Reflect on your learning process during these weeks. Share any challenges you’ve faced, moments of discovery, or significant interactions that have contributed to your development. How have these experiences shaped your journey as a scholar, practitioner, and leader?
Explain how you’ve applied or plan to apply what you’ve learned in your professional setting. Are there specific concepts or theories that you’ve integrated into your practice or that have influenced your approach to leadership and followership?
Identify any aspects of the material that remain unclear or areas where you’re particularly curious to explore further. Feel free to pose questions to your faculty member that can help deepen your understanding or address these uncertainties.
