Health Promotion Strategies and Resources
How do you plan to use Healthy People 2030 in your work as a new health educator?
Healthy People 2030 is a national framework that is intended to improve America’s citizens’ health and well-being. Healthy People 2030 is important because it provides information regarding the national health goals as well as objectives. Health educators are critical to the nation’s health, as they provide recommendations for healthy choices (Siminerio, 1999). As a resource person, every health educator should be conversant with the national health objectives.
Firstly, it is important to align the various health programs with these objectives and communicate the same to the potential beneficiaries. In addition, understanding the various populations that are targeted through the set objectives is critical. It will facilitate the prioritization of different populations based on their risks. Furthermore, I will gain an understanding of each population’s challenges, making it possible to anticipate their needs. With such knowledge, I can choose the most effective strategies, approaches, and communication channels that suit each population.
Secondly, access to Healthy People 2030 will enable constant monitoring of the effectiveness of the various health programs. Once I have developed the programs, I will align their goals with the national health objectives. The alignment is critical in accelerating the achievement of national goals at the community level (ODPHP, 2020). Thus, as a health educator, I will be able to monitor the performance of these programs. Such monitoring creates an opportunity to eliminate ineffective strategies and create new ones that are likely to lead to the desired goals. Most importantly, it will enable the interpretation of the results that each health program yields.
What specific resources (web-based or otherwise) will you likely use? Please list and briefly describe each.
Different teaching resources suit different populations. I intend to use both web-based and physical resources to provide information to varied populations. The physical resources include posters, banners, and brochures. These are ideal for the older generations due to ease of access whenever they would like to refresh their memories. They can be distributed at health centers, schools, and workplaces. In addition, they can also be used to teach the younger generations during class sessions. They provide a summary of the information in such scenarios. Banners are important as they provide critical details regarding a certain health program. These details include the dates, venues, facilitators, and key themes. Such details are easily accessible to passersby, patients, and other individuals who then pass on this information to potential beneficiaries.
Web-based resources include websites that provide detailed information about various health indicators. Online resources are easy to use as they reach a wide audience. They can be used to educate the young and the old alike. The information on the websites can be accessed at any time and shared with other networks. It can also be saved for access in the future. These aspects make it easy to use and effective. Most importantly, they can include graphics and images that enable the viewers to understand the concepts. It is also possible to cite resources that the audience can access for clarification (Hadjerrouit, 2010). Therefore, using online resources largely benefits the population and contributes to achieving the set objectives.
Thinking back to the Leading Health Indicator you identified as a primary concern in Module 1, how will you track progress toward the achievement of the corresponding Healthy People 2030 objectives?
To track the progress of the health programs, I intend to compare the national goals to the programs’ objectives. Constant monitoring is important in ensuring that the programs remain on track. Firstly, I will check the respective website for updates on achieving national goals. These updates may include strategies, programs, approaches, and teaching methods that are likely to lead to the achievement of the set goals. The updates are important as they are obtained from reliable data sets, surveys, and samples (ODPHP, n.d). Its analysis addresses all communities, including minority groups.
Secondly, I intend to use the available data to create guiding policies and plan the programs. Using this information is critical to the achievement of the set goals. It is possible to align the programs’ goals with the national goals. This alignment acts as a monitoring aspect as it eliminates any enhancement of deviation from the main goals. Finally, I intend to compare my programs’ progress to the data obtained from the national websites.
This comparison is critical in ensuring that the programs do not deviate from the main goals and strategies of achievement. Failure to monitor the programs in this manner could lead to multiple deviations that consume resources and time significantly. Thus, the entire monitoring process saves time and resources significantly and ensures that those consumed produce the desired impact (Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, 2020). At the national level, achieving the set objectives becomes easier when all health educators adhere to the Healthy People 2030 framework.

Question
Health Promotion Strategies and Resources
The SLP assignment for this course will entail becoming familiar with the Healthy People initiative. To this end, you will be asked to research key components of Healthy People 2030, illustrating how the initiative is being implemented, noting data sources available to monitor progress toward achievement of Healthy People goals and objectives, and recommending strategies for incorporating Healthy People into the work we do as health educators.
Based on your understanding of Healthy People 2030 and your research, answer the following questions:
- How do you plan to use Healthy People 2030 in your work as a new health educator?
- What specific resources (web-based or otherwise) will you likely use? Please list and briefly describe each.
- Thinking back to the Leading Health Indicator you identified as a primary concern in Module 1, how will you track progress toward the achievement of the corresponding Healthy People 2030 objectives?
