Living to 100 Years of Age
Life expectancy determination involves various factors, from childhood to advanced life stages. To live long, one must start fulfilling these factors as early as possible. These factors include a healthy diet, living positively, regular exercise, and prevention of a sedentary lifestyle. A sedentary lifestyle predisposes many individuals to hypertension, obesity, high cholesterol, and diabetes type 2, which shorten one’s life expectancy. In view of this, I pray that I live as long as possible but not beyond 100 years. As we grow old, many changes take place within our body system. The psychological, neurological, physical, and organ system changes will affect my lifestyle negatively. Several diseases are associated with the elderly, some of which are severe and painful and which I don’t want to go through. The elderly suffer from various conditions, such as Alzheimer’s, memory loss, depression, parkinsonism, and others. Once these conditions set in, the elderly get no treatment, and their management is based entirely on daily medications or being sent to a nursing home. Old age comes with limited body functionalities, increasing dependence on one’s family. As I age, I don’t want to put a lot of burden on my family through all those pains. In my opinion, my life would be more fulfilling if I lived without much pain in the process and being able to handle my daily life, which is why I would not want to live to 100 years of age.
