Based on (Goodman, 2021), the Motherboard is the main printed circuit board of a computer; it contains the CPU, and it distributes power to other components and facilitates their coordination.

The Central processing unit is the main processor that computes instructions contained in a computer program, it performs arithmetic, logic, controlling and input/output operations.

A computer system unit is part of a computer that houses the primary components that execute operations and produce outputs of complex computations. It holds the internal parts in place and protects the electronic circuitry system from damage.

The processor takes the address number, which identifies the next executable instruction, after which decoding is done, and all programs to be executed are converted to assembly language. Lastly the CPU does execution and storage, the output is generated, and the data is stored in memory (Silwen, 2021)

An operating system is a software that acts as an interface between computer users and the hardware components at a basic level. It manages all the applications and programs that a computer functions on like input/output operations.

System software is a computer software designed to control the computer hardware and application programs, it forms the basis of computer program execution, it is the connecting layer between user applications and hardware. An application software is a software designed to satisfy particular user needs like listening to music.

A browser program is a software program that allows a computer user to view and access information on the internet. An example is Google chrome.

It contains information of ports currently used, hardware present in the computer and settings for icons and files.

Windows registry replaces text based files used in earlier versions of Windows operating system, it is the main database of the OS, it houses all the information that a computer requires to operate.

Files and Folders

A file is a collection of information, commands and data stored in a storage device, which is identifiable by a file name.

A directory is a file system that has references leading to other computer files and possibly other directories. Its function is to store and organize files separately

The purpose of a folder is to ensure that files are properly organized and separated.

The information found in file properties are, type of file, size of the file, last time the file was modified and the last time the file was accessed.

Save updates the latest information in a file while save as stores a new file or enables transfer of an already existing file to a new location using the same or different file name.

Malware software is an umbrella term that defines computer programs that are created to attack and harm a computer system. Its purpose is to invade a computer for reasons like access to corporate information.

Platform software is a major piece of software where other application programs can be created to run. It forms the foundation on which other software and applications can be hosted.

Utilities software is a type of software that manages, maintains and controls the entire computer infrastructure. Its purpose is to perform particular functions that maintain and increase the efficiency of a computer system.

Course management software is a software used to manage a vast arrangement of training courses, students and many instructional materials. Its purpose is to improve efficiency of training since it allows learning to occur at any time.

Device drive software is a software program that enables a device driver to communicate with computer hardware via a computer bus linked to the hardware. Its purpose is to ensure a computer system works properly because, without the device driver, the hardware can not function appropriately.

A firewall is a network system that checks incoming and leaving network traffic, then it can permit or restrict data packets based on stipulated network rules. A firewall acts as a protective layer that safeguards an individual’s or a company’s network.
