Significance of the Study
Studying the impact of flooding on agricultural lands is essential for several reasons. Firstly, flooding causes crop loss, and many farmers experience this issue yearly. It appears that even current measures to protect farmers from losing their farmlands to flooding are insufficient, considering the continued severity of this problem even yearly. The study of the impact of flooding on farmlands will help researchers discover the root causes of this natural calamity and then create remedial strategies to possibly end this problem permanently. For instance, many farmers attribute their loss of crops and farmlands to heavy rainfalls that occur seasonally but perhaps flooding is mainly caused by global warming (Ara, 335). If measures to mitigate global warming are instituted in these regions, then flooding may be remedied to give affected farmers relief.
Secondly, it is essential to study flooding and its impact on farmlands to increase awareness of the issue and arouse farmers to push the national government to institute remedies they have on paper but not actualized yet. Most national governments have employed environmental experts before to assess reasons for flooding in their productive regions, and these studies have propelled the creation of admirable policies that are yet to be instituted. If comprehensive research is published concerning flooding and its impact on farmlands, this study could be publicized as a way to compel the national government to execute designed policies that help farmers post-flooding and reduce the possibility of increased sea, lake, and river levels to destroy crops. Lastly, Farmers could also be made aware of seasons they are likely to experience flooding to help them plan their planting and harvesting calendars appropriately. Overall, the study of the impact of flooding on farmlands is essential for mentioned reasons.
