Role of Governments in Combating Terrorism
What are the benefits of a computer network?
The main aim of a computer network is to enable resource sharing. When computers are interconnected, users can access data from the database, communicate with each other, and print documents. Therefore, the interconnection makes activities in an organization or business more efficient (Beqiri, 2018).
Is it important to design a network topology before setting up a computer network?
A network topology describes the arrangement of computers within a network (Mousa et al., 2019). Therefore, it is important to design a network topology before implementing a network. The topology is determined by several factors including the number of users, budget, scalability, and geographical area to be covered. Network topologies are categorized into physical and logical topologies. These topologies include star, bus, ring, mesh, and hybrid (Lim, 2016). A network that requires frequent maintenance or scaling up would be set up on star topology because each computer is directly linked to a central server. Therefore, adding another computer to the network would be easy because it would only require a single link to the server. This would not affect another link on the network. The star topology could be physical or logical. Meaning, computers might be physically arranged in a star topology. In a logical star topology where physically, the star topology cannot be seen. To implement a robust topology that facilitates fault diagnosis, a network designer would choose the mesh topology (Mousa et al., 2019). However, the cost of implementation would be higher than that of star topology. Therefore, an organization would have to check on the implementation cost, the robustness of the topology, and scalability before deciding on the star or mesh topology.
