Internet Preparation for Parenting-Prenatal Care
Which was more interesting and why?
The North Dakota State University website was more interesting because it included activities that readers can complete to evaluate their parenting skills. For instance, one of the activities focuses on listing what readers think will be important for them to think about or develop in becoming a parent (North Dakota State University). The second activity requires readers to list the skills needed in parenting, the tasks a reader will do as a parent, past experiences that have prepared the reader for parenting, personal strengths that will help the reader in parenting, and what a reader can do to enhance their parenting skills.
Are the topics covered similar or different?
The topics covered on the North Dakota State University website and the Global Library of Women’s Medicine website are not the same, although they focus on preparation for parenting. The topics covered on the Global Library of Women’s Medicine website are becoming a parent, the role of parenthood, and what can be done to prepare for parenthood (Riedmann). The topics covered in the North Dakota State University website are trends and the evolution of families and parenting, childbirth preparation, the transition to parenthood, parenting and the provision of child care, parenting in unique circumstances, gay and lesbian parents, women with physical challenges, and future trends.
How user-friendly is the website?
The two websites are user-friendly because the information is clearly outlined, and it is also easy to navigate to different sections using the keywords outlining different sections.
Is the information presented in a format that is easily understood by all education levels?
The information on the two websites is presented in a format that is easily understood by all education levels because there are no technical terms, and the English used is simple.
Compare the information presented in your textbook to that found on the websites. Is it similar? How is it different? Make at least 2 suggestions for improving each website.
The information presented in the textbook is similar to that found on the website based on the fact that it includes information on how parenting affects the cognitive, emotional, social, and physical domains of child development and the application of working with and teaching young children (Puckett and Black). The two websites include information on the role of a parent in the development of a child and how different parenting behaviors can affect a child’s development. The two websites and the textbook also contain information on transitioning to parenthood by focusing on the responsibility of a parent in bringing up a child. The main difference between the information on the websites and the textbook is that while the two websites focus on the role of parenthood, the textbook focuses on early childhood development, how a family operates before the birth of a child, and motor, perceptual, emotional, physical, cognitive, social, literacy and language development from infancy through different ages.
Although the two websites are currently okay, there are some suggestions that can be used to improve them. One of the suggestions for improving the Global Library of Women’s Medicine website is to include pictures demonstrating the transition to parenthood and the changes in parental roles throughout the development of a child. The pictures could be presented as a cycle demonstrating the activities parents engage in before a child is born and those activities that emerge after a child is born. The second suggestion is to shorten the Global Library of Women’s Medicine website and only include the most important information. Shortening the website will also contribute to improving its appearance and enable readers to get the information they need within a short time. The North Dakota State University website can be improved by bolding the titles to distinguish them from other content presented to readers. The second suggestion is to include brightly colored images to enhance the website’s appearance and catch the attention of readers.
