An interview illusion is an act where a person interviewing a candidate overrates their ability to interview and select the best candidate. In other words, the interviewer is overconfident that they can already know a candidate quickly and easily using their traits. Ross and Nisbett (2011) stated that interviewers may feel they have the instinct to rate candidates. This approach to interviewing is called interview illusion and is commonly misleading (Ross & Nisbett, 2011). This behaviour can be caused by the interviewer’s time in recruitment. Those interviewers who have been in the recruiting field for longer may feel they have enough experience to easily identify the right candidates by just looking at them or having a brief chat.

Obstacles and Techniques for Hiring and Interviewing Best Candidates

The one obstacle to hiring a candidate is attracting the best candidates. The technique I propose is to attract suitable candidates using excellent job descriptions. The best real-life example is the Five Guys Enterprises business, known for its excellent job descriptions. They focus on everything, including location, which many recruiters consider unimportant (Review, 2008). They also make the candidate believe it is fun to work at their restaurants. The second obstacle is ensuring fair recruitment, and the best solution is having standard and unbiased interviews. A real-life example is Google, which relies on structured interviews with in-depth questions that are needed for the position. Another obstacle is landing on the right pool of candidates. The best technique proposed is recruiting qualified students right from campuses through giving internships. The best example is Wolverine Trading, which recruits students from campuses and offers them internships.
