The COVID-19 pandemic is the crisis I will use as an example in this discussion. Due to its significant effects on social structures, global economies, and public health, the COVID-19 pandemic qualifies as a crisis. Since it has caused millions of illnesses and fatalities globally, overwhelmed healthcare systems, and put a severe strain on medical resources, the COVID-19 pandemic qualifies as a health crisis. The COVID-19 pandemic has had negative socioeconomic effects, such as job losses, business closures, and disruptions in the educational system (Haffejee et al., 2022). The pandemic qualifies as a worldwide crisis of enormous size because of its unprecedented scope, fast spread, and significant effects on numerous facets of human life. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic necessitated extensive public health measures such as lockdowns, travel restrictions, and mass vaccination campaigns, further highlighting its impact on global societies.

My function would differ from that of a certified mental health counselor in terms of the scope and focus of my work as a human services professional intervening in the COVID-19 pandemic catastrophe. My employment as a human services professional would involve a wider range of support services. In contrast, a licensed mental health counselor focuses on offering therapeutic interventions and addressing clients’ psychological well-being. I would actively organize resources, carry out neighborhood initiatives, and offer helpful assistance to those people and families affected by the situation. This may entail providing access to crucial resources, managing relief operations in times of disaster, providing crisis intervention, and easing participation in social support and healthcare systems. Situations may arise within the pandemic where the mental health needs of individuals become complex and require specialized expertise in diagnosing and treating mental health disorders (Di Carlo et al., 2020). In such cases, the involvement of a licensed mental health counselor would be crucial to providing specialized therapeutic interventions and addressing specific mental health concerns.
