The Metaparadigm of Nursing

The Metaparadigm of Nursing

Nursing paradigms map out the general principles and parameters of nursing practice. The metaparadigms of environment, nursing, person, and health are valuable guides to nursing practice. They aid in the design of nursing curricula and provide conceptual frameworks within which nursing values are constructed (DELIKTAS et al., 2019). The stated theory that providing holistic care promotes patients’ satisfaction with the process, improves their clinical outcomes, and enhances their experiences is an embodiment of the four metaparadigms of nursing.

The human factor metaparadigm consists of the patient, their families, and factors of self that play a role in their health. This metaparadigm requires nurses to provide care beyond the physical needs of these patients but also addresses their spiritual and emotional needs (Frisch & Rabinowitsch, 2019). The theory advocates for holistic nursing care that considers all aspects of the patient’s well-being and affirms the significance of this paradigm in nursing care. The second metapardigm of environment encompasses all factors within the patients’ surroundings that influence their health. These may include but are not limited to culture, technology, and social connection. The theory concurs with this paradigm by encouraging an all-around approach to nursing care. This approach recognizes these factors and seeks to leverage them to promote patient well-being and experiences during caring.

The metaparadigm of health details the processes of life and death. This theoretical postulate concurs with this metaparadigm by promoting better patient outcomes. The nursing metaparadigm details aspects of the nursing profession and nursing practice. The theory recognizes this metaparadigm by advocating for holistic care. Holistic care addresses all aspects of individual wellness, including best practices in nursing that promote patients’ well-being and enhance their experiences and satisfaction with the care processes.
