Guidelines to Consider When Developing a Supervision Plan for the Supervisees at the Star ABA Center
The first guideline to consider when developing a supervision plan for the supervisees at Star ABA Center is to keep code 1.05 of the BACB’s compliance code in mind. This code stipulates that where cultural or ethnic differences such as ethnicity, culture, gender, age, and religion, among others, influence the work of behaviour analysts, behaviour analysts need to get supervision, consultation, and experience to ensure service competence (Bailey & Burch, 2016). Therefore, supervisors at Star ABA Center must first ensure they have enough training and experience in dealing with matters of diversity and differences before setting out to supervise supervisees. For instance, the supervisor at Star ABA Center can hire a consultant to offer training on diversity competence and how to deal with people from various backgrounds.
The second guideline is to ensure that supervisees do not discriminate against groups or individuals based on various differences such as language, culture, ethnicity, gender, age, or disability, among others. As Bailey & Burch (2016) stipulate, code 1.05 requires behavior analysts to avoid engaging in discrimination based on differences. For instance, in hiring or choosing a team to work on a case, the supervisor can involve persons who speak English, Spanish, and French based on the project needs and not mere English speakers alone. They can also involve Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, and other races in the team. Besides, BACB (2023) requires supervisors to address and incorporate diversity topics such as gender, ethnicity, age, marital status, religion, and race. For example, they should not stop more than 40 supervisees from working because of their religious holiday, which may affect their duties. They can find ways of ensuring their duties are completed while considering their religious holidays.
The third guideline is ensuring that supervisees do not knowingly demean or harass clients or colleagues based on differences (Bailey & Burch, 2016). For example, they can put whistleblowing policies/measures in place to ensure that clients are treated fairly and with respect. Some clients may be charged more than others at the workplace based on their race, age, and nationality, among other variables. It is the supervisor’s role to ensure this does not happen by implementing policies that protect clients against such discrimination.

Ensuring effective supervision by abiding by recommended practices is important as a supervisor. A supervisor must establish an effective supervisor-supervisee relationship by developing a supervision contract, setting clear expectations, receiving and accepting feedback, and creating a committed and positive relationship. Additionally, a supervisor should establish a plan for structured supervision content and competency evaluation. Incorporating multiculturalism and ethical requirements into supervision is also a recommended guideline. Lastly, continuing a relationship post-certification allows for mentorship and collaboration.
