Importance of Local Health Care System in Implementation of Evidence Based Practice

Importance of Local Health Care System in Implementation of Evidence Based Practice

A clear understanding of the healthcare system is crucial in EBP planning and implementation at the local level for several reasons. EBP implementation, for starters, will require resources from the local community, including funding and human capital. During EBP implementation, a team of skilled staff will be needed who have a clear understanding of the purpose of the EBP and how to execute its objectives. Hence, having knowledge on who is the best fit in ensuring a certain parameter of the EBP is implemented, is important. Additionally, the local-level healthcare system organizational culture aids in implementing EBP. The willingness of the leadership in the healthcare organization to implement the change has a domino effect of availing other resources such as staff training, funding, and skilled human resources. Thus, it is critical to understand the healthcare system organizational leadership at the local level in determining willingness to implement EBP (Warren et al., 2016). Another important aspect is to understand a healthcare system’s culture at the local level. Some of the factors in an organization’s culture include the norms, local community traditions, and the applied human resource, which form the foundation of the healthcare systems culture. Culture plays an important role because it impacts stakeholder cooperation in the process (Yoo et al., 2019).

Some of the considerations to make in the proposed change project include the local community, as well as the local agencies, in the change implementation. For example, having the local government on board will allow my staff to hold meetings at the local park where locals can be educated on the need to have patients discharged to their homes monitored by family, which could help in reducing incidences of pressure ulcers. At an organizational level, I would ensure that the proposed change is within the regulations of the organization and the nursing body’s regulations (Ost et al., 2020). Lastly, the success of the project will greatly determine the next step, which is advocating for similar changes in other local healthcare settings. This way, when more facilities make the changes, the community will benefit faster, and the community’s economy will be bettered as a consequence.
