Ethics in Health Care
Resolving Ethical Dilemma
The ability of American healthcare services to meet the country’s population’s healthcare demands is under severe threat from the ethical relativism, science, and financial analytics that drive them. A revitalized healthcare sector that answers the need for the common purpose and delivers services must be built on the resolution of fundamental moral questions (Perkins, 2021). A just, fair, easily accessible, reasonably priced, and, most notably, the moral structure of health care is highly required, one in which the integrity and liberty of each person are acknowledged as the pinnacle of the task at hand. Therefore, to address healthcare ethics, I selected the article “Health Care Today: Whom Do We Really Care About?” by Brother Ignatius Perkins, Published in 2021.
Based on the article, ethical dilemmas can be resolved through wise decision-making. Identifying the conflicting commitments and addressing the dilemma accurately is the first approach. The second stage is finding different viewpoints in the scenario by considering the perspectives of the recipient of services, coworkers, and other related stakeholders. The third phase is acquiring information and assistance that could guide my decision. In the fourth stage, one prepares to make a choice. Making a strategy enables one to choose the most effective method for putting ideas into practice (Scarre, 2020). Implementing the plan in the approach one chooses is the final phase. Conclusively, dilemmas should be resolved because the strategy may improve intellectual development and foster more appropriate ethical decisions.
Ethical Theory
The theory that applies when supporting my ideas is the theory of rule utilitarianism. I will apply it fairly while also considering the law. I will also try to help as many patients as possible to access good healthcare and quality services, but only by the fairest, most excellent, and equitable means possible. The philosophy appealed to me since, according to Scarre (2020), it prioritizes justice while incorporating beneficence.
