Use of B2B and B2C in Healthcare
Business 2 Business (B2B) is a type of transaction involving businesses. One example of B2B is the transaction between a manufacturer and a wholesaler. Conversely, Business 2 Consumer (B2C) sells services and products directly between consumers and businesses, where consumers are the end-users. The main types of B2C models in the modern business environment are online intermediaries, direct sellers, fee-based, community-based, and advertising-based (Kenton, 2022). The fee-based model includes charging customers a fee to access a product or service. The community-based model has built communities based on common interests to help advertisers and marketers directly promote products and services to customers. The advertising-based model includes using free content to draw traffic to a website.

According to Madanaguli et al. (2021), B2B in healthcare includes providing a healthcare service or product to another business. For instance, pharmaceutical companies sell medicine to healthcare facilities. Hospitals may also outsource employees from other firms to handle customer service and information technology tasks. B2B in healthcare also offers healthcare services to firms such as elderly care facilities. Further, B2C in healthcare includes developing relationships between patients and healthcare providers. According to Grustam et al. (2017), telemonitoring is one of the main applications of B2C in healthcare. One of the main activities in telemonitoring is informing patients about the existence of telemonitoring services and their significance in healthcare. Another activity is encouraging patients and other stakeholders in the healthcare setting to download the telemonitoring app. The third activity is the registration and payment of the telemonitoring charges, and the fourth is connecting the app to external monitoring devices. B2C in healthcare also includes offering specific healthcare services to a selected group. For example, a healthcare facility may specialize in providing healthcare services to children or older people.
