Ecological Footprint Update and Course Reflection

Ecological Footprint Update and Course Reflection

This week, I have continued to use environment-friendly products, eat an organic diet, use water cautiously, and use public transportation. Transitioning and maintaining an organic diet has been relatively easy despite the challenges that came up. This week, I found a nearby hospital where I can get vitamin B12 injections every month. I also began buying food in bulk. Buying food in bulk reduces packaging (Wynes, Zhao, & Donner, 2020). A small carbon footprint is achieved by reducing packaging. Buying food in bulk also simplifies the delivery process and lowers the amount of Carbon (IV) oxide emitted during that process. I have learned from these activities that I need to keep researching methods of reducing my ecological footprint.

Using environment-friendly products was another objective of my project. To achieve this, I have avoided using disposable plastics such as cups or plates. Additionally, I learned that most chewing gums are made of plastic; therefore, I have been purchasing less gum (Roy, 2021). I have adjusted to using public transportation and cycling. This week, I got a bus schedule, and I have been able to arrive at my various destinations on time. While cycling, I carry a 1-litre bottle of mineral water to combat dehydration and muscle cramps. Muscle cramps are caused by continuous muscle contraction that can occur secondary to dehydration (Lau, Kato & Nosaka, 2021). Water, especially one that is fortified with electrolytes, aids in the relaxation of muscles.

The fourth week of class was quite interesting. As we continue to learn, I am surprised by how human beings are destroying the environment. I realize that a lot of changes have to be made to restore the balance that was in the environment. Extensive knowledge on how to reduce our ecological footprint is available and ready for use if we need it. We need to work together to save the environment. Every individual has different ideas that would produce significant change if put together. I aim to discuss and work together with my classmates to reduce my ecological footprint.

Week 4: Ecological Footprint Update and Course Reflection (prior journal is attached)
[WLOs: 1, 2, 3] [CLOs: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
Prior to working on this journal, read Chapters 7 and 8 in your course textbook.

Throughout this course, you are keeping a journal about your experience in the class. The purpose of this activity is to enable you to reflect on your learning: what new things you have discovered, what surprises you have encountered, what topics or ideas you have found particularly challenging, and how the course is going for you. You should also be using the journal as a space for a progress report on your Environmental Footprint Reduction Project efforts. Your entries will be evaluated in terms of how well they met the topic and length requirements, as well as your writing clarity. Your entries should be a minimum of one typed page each (double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-point font) and will be submitted through Waypoint.
