Various media sources bear an influence on workplace diversity decisions. Essentially, diversity decisions with respect to guidelines that govern behavior within the workplace and the composition of workers in terms of gender, ethnicity, race, language, and other factors define workplace diversity (Goldman, 2010). Two ways in which media sources influence workplace diversity decisions are discussed. First, media sources contribute to enhanced workplace diversity across various organizations. Notably, this occurs through the power that the media holds in spreading information regarding various aspects of organizations. For instance, an organization’s reputation can be ruined once media sources spread information terming the organization as insensitive to workplace diversity. Since all organizations require a positive reputation in the market, they will embrace workplace diversity in all their decisions, including respecting differences portrayed by different workers (Neumark, 2003). Second, media sources influence workplace diversity decisions through access to information. Essentially, information sourced from media can offer significant insight into important diversity aspects for workers drawn from certain places. Thus, decision-making functions will easily draw from media sources to enhance workplace diversity issues within their organizations.

While acting as the public affairs director, I would manage media sources in various ways to address the two issues identified. First, I would select specific media sources with a proven record of reliable information from which the information that should be factored in decision-making can be drawn. Notably, this is so because media sources can bear biased and misleading information (Corbin & Duvall, 2014). Second, as the public affairs director, I would engage media sources in printing a positive picture of our organization. According to Rittenhouse (2013), media sources can create or destroy a company’s image. Thus, engaging the right media as the director, I will print an image of the organization as a diverse workplace.
