Curbing Human Trafficking

Curbing Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is an illegal business involving forcefully trading human beings for forced labor and sexual exploitation or acts. Human trafficking happens worldwide and affects men, women, and children and may include violence or fake promises. There are many forms of trafficking, but major ones involve the abuse of the victims’ inherent vulnerability. Human trafficking includes forced labor, criminal activities, the smuggling of women for sexual exploitation purposes, and people smuggling for the removal of body organs (“Types of human trafficking,” 2022).

Human trafficking assailants target vulnerable victims who will accept material things in exchange. The significant factors contributing to trafficking include political instability as war and political violence may occur, causing people to flee away in search of secure communities but end up homeless, unemployed, and unwanted; therefore, traffickers take advantage of their desperation. Racism is also a factor since people who experience racism have limited access to employment, education, and housing, which increases the risks of trafficking (“What Makes Someone Vulnerable to Human Trafficking? – Province of British Columbia”, 2022). Moreover, poverty affects trafficking significantly because traffickers use payment excuses, and victims quickly agree to the promised sum of payments. Therefore, poor people are highly exposed to human trafficking. Other factors include gender inequality, addictions, and gang involvement.

The law enforcement methods that can be used to stop human trafficking are identifying and investigating cases for enough periods and arresting traffickers and anyone involved. The law can also convince victims and ensure their safety, as they sometimes fear speaking about what they have gone through. Lastly, the law can encourage families to look after their children and report suspicious behavior within their surroundings. To summarize, human trafficking is proven to be dangerous and can lead to irreversible conditions. Therefore, it is up to the law and the community to ensure safety within each other.
