Final Course Reflection
After finishing my course successfully, one area I will change is how I spend my money, especially in lending to others and borrowing from others. Notably, this is so because, during the course, I learned about an interesting aspect of the time value of money. I realized the money I have today would have a different and less value tomorrow (Muda & Hasibuan, 2018). Therefore, while lending to my friends, I will consider adding a margin to cater for the lost value upon payback. However, while borrowing from others, I will be careful to pay less in terms of interest and principal. It is worth noting that the time value of money particularly caught my attention in terms of how it is applied to other topics. For instance, I found the concept of time value of money to be an underlying concept in capital budgeting, cost of capital, and stock and bond valuation (Cornett et al., 2016). Notably, while using the most preferred net present value to evaluate different projects in capital budgeting, I realized it would be difficult to understand and use without the time value of money. I would like to know all areas where the concept is applied.
If I were to offer advice about the principles of the finance course, I would encourage a positive attitude among learners undertaking the course. Accordingly, this advice is based on my experience while taking the course. I realized that the course tends to be challenging without having a positive attitude toward different concepts. However, by embracing a positive attitude, I could comfortably tackle various topics and fully understand them. Remarkably, the positive attitude played a critical role in evaluating risk and return and stock and bond valuation topics.
