State and federal policies that impact the social problem
The state of North Carolina has taken the issue of gender inequality seriously, resulting in the implementation of various state and federal policies to eliminate the problem. On 18 October 2017, North Carolina’s governor, Roy Cooper, issued an executive order outlining the policies prohibiting harassment, discrimination, and retaliation in state services, employment, and contracts under the governor’s office jurisdiction (Wise et al., 2012). The policies prevented gender discrimination in providing state services and jobs, creating equal opportunities for both men and women interested in state offices. The Equality Act is also implemented in North Carolina to address the issue of gender inequality. The act forbids discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex.
Specific methods to address the social problems
One of the methods that can address the problem is including specific policies that specify how women should be treated. For instance, the policies should increase the minimum wage for women and promote equal pay for equal work. The second method is creating platforms to empower women and give them a voice in advocating for equal treatment. Bringing women together effectively enables them to fight for equal opportunities in organizations by influencing policymakers to protect them from discrimination. Another method is educating the public on the need to stop gender inequality and enlightening them on women’s important role in society, particularly when they are granted opportunities to promote their financial growth. Such roles may include starting charity organizations to help the less fortunate in the community and adopting children to give them a better life.
How the agency and student can advocate changing the social problem
The student and agency can advocate changing the problem by gathering information on the experiences of women who have undergone gender inequality to understand the magnitude of the issue and the most effective ways to address the problem. The agency and student can also sponsor and mentor women to equip them with the knowledge and skills required to be competitive in the job market and increase their chances of securing good jobs with reasonable pay.
