Leadership and Management
Describe the best leader you have personally known. What makes this person such a good leader? Include in your description the characteristics detailed in the textbook. How does your leader exhibit some of these characteristics?
Since I started working at an early age, I have had the opportunity to serve as an employee under severalarkable supervisors who have helped me develop into the accomplished professional that today. Ms. B. is the first person in a leadership role I have ever met, and she has just recently started making significant changes in my life. She has been a teacher for close to 25 years, which makes her a veteran of the school system. Although I’ve known her for the better part of my life, we haven’t collaborated professionally until the last few years. On a professional and personal level, we are associated with one another. Before the outbreak struck the previous year, I planned to check her classroom regularly. During the most recent school year, I count my good fortune as being able to count Ms. B as my advisor. She was an excellent advisor who assisted me in many parts of the teaching profession, including classroom management, student motivation, and conferences with parents and guardians.
Because these are abilities that I can use for the whole of my professional life, I shall be grateful to her for all of eternity. A competent leader is someone who can communicate their ideas in a way that is both clear and effective. Ms. B has many of the qualities that make a great leader. She has taken on the role of a mother figure for me at the workplace. She will both inspire and coerce you to accept responsibility for the decisions you make in your life. In addition to that, she has qualities such as self-assurance and dependability. When many people look up to you as a leader, it may be challenging to guide them properly. To be a great leader, you must have the right personality attributes and experience managing people and projects.
A wise leader can see the issue more comprehensively and then investigate it in depth from various sources.
What are the essential differences between an effective manager and an effective leader?
In contrast, management is marked by exercising control over subordinates, but leadership is characterized by inspiring and encouraging those who follow one. There is a possibility that management has a goal in mind and will do whatever it takes to achieve that goal. The exercise of leadership is a team sport, and we all work together towards the same purpose. Everyone is on an equal footing since this setting has no hierarchy. The manager is the individual in the management structure to whom subordinates are accountable for providing answers. Managers can become puffed up by their positions of control and start looking down on the people who work for them. If we make a mistake, I believe that management needs to be the one to accept responsibility. It is pretty unusual for managers to lack leadership attributes in their positions. They may be exceptional at the tasks associated with their professions, such as arranging and scheduling, but they are poor at managing other people. According to the information in the reading material, some of the words related to management are effectiveness, planning, documentation, procedures, rules, and control. When attempting to characterize leaders, words such as “risk,” “dynamism,” “creativity,” “change,” and “vision” are often used. Some people believe that leadership is intrinsically value-laden in contrast to management since it requires selecting values and determining their order of importance. According to Hughes, Ginnett, and Curphy’s (2019) research, “Leaders are thought to do the right things, while managers are thought to do the things right.” As I’ve said in other posts, I got my first job at a young age and have experienced many management styles since then. It is impossible to separate the traits of effective management and leadership. In my perspective, we can’t do without either one.
