Human Behavior Leadership Theories

Human Behavior Leadership Theories

When I think of the best leader I have ever worked with, I think of my first manager at my most recent job. She encouraged me and my other coworkers to always give feedback and suggestions on improving her leadership and the whole business. She always gave praise where praise was due but also gave the best advice when I did not complete or do something correctly. I never felt bad if I messed up because of her constant reassurance. She used more of a participative style of leadership. Many of my other colleagues and I were always included in any news about business changes or anything about the job that would be useful for us to know.

She truly desired to lead us in her own unique way, which was very refreshing. This caused me to have high motivation and also helped me find my purpose. I was extremely happy in my position and gained experience that I never knew I needed. This may be a broad statement, but I do not feel she could have done anything differently. I was blessed to have gained much from that position with her as my leader.

When I think of the worst leader I have ever worked with, I think of my first internship. She was extremely rude if I ever gave a suggestion or idea. I felt like I had to be very silent around her. She had an autocratic approach to leadership. This leader did not help me grow in the slightest but instead increased my stress dramatically. She was harsh and cold and gave me unfathomable work as a first-year intern. I would be scolded and looked down on if I ever made a mistake. There was also horrible communication. She would constantly be late to any meeting we had and never apologized. It was very unprofessional. I was extremely drained in this position. I never wanted to work, and I had a significant amount of stress placed on me every week. I always completed my tasks, but it was in the most unproductive, unenthusiastic way. I was always negative mentally. My leader should have encouraged me and the other employees more and allowed for open communication. She also should have been more structured and timelier as well. I think if she would’ve been more open to knowing me and my work ethic and not being autocratic in a negative way, I would’ve enjoyed the job a lot more.
