Instagram is an example of a social network that can be classified under the general type of social network. The classification under the general type of social network is because Instagram allows different individuals to meet and socialize, create posts, and share related information.

Discuss the business model of the social network.

The business model for Instagram involves advertising, where businesses or individuals can create posts and promote the post by making specific payments, and this allows the posts to reach more individuals using the social network. Instagram includes various features. One of the features includes instant messaging. In instant messaging, users can send and receive messages from other individuals within their network. When a message sender is not in the network of the message receiver, the receiver has to approve the message request from the sender.

A new update on the social network Instagram involved the combination of the direct messages feature of Instagram and the messages sent on Facebook Messenger. Another feature of Instagram involves network discovery. Instagram contains a search feature that allows users to discover new users, find their friends, and even discover posts that might interest them. Instagram also provides recommendations for similar users and topics that a user might be interested in following. The creation of a friends network is another feature of Instagram. This involves following the accounts of friends and any other accounts of interest. The close friends’ list on the social network allows for the creation of a list that can be granted access to various content from a user that is not made available to other users. When accounts are made private by the users, other users have to make requests that allow them to see the posts made by the users.

BlackPlanet

Another social network includes BlackPlanet. BlackPlanet can be classified under the affinity type of social network, and this is because it is a community of individuals that belong to the African American community. Apart from a social network, BlackPlanet also includes a radio station.

Discuss the business model of the social network.

Similar to the Instagram social network, the business model of the social network BlackPlanet involves advertising. The adverts are located on different sections of the web pages, unlike on Instagram, where the adverts are in the form of posts made by users.

One of the features of the BlackPlanet includes network discovery. On the social network, users can create accounts and follow other users. Through network discovery, the social network classifies users under popular users and even under users that are online. Popular posts made by the users are also highlighted. Another feature of the BlackPlanet social network includes a timeline, which is arranged in chronological order. The homepage of the social network includes different posts made by different users. The social network also includes a trending section that includes the different popular posts on the social network. On a user’s profile, the different posts made by the user are displayed in chronological order. The favorites (like) feature of social networks is also available on BlackPlanet. Users have the ability to like the different posts made by the users as well as leave comments under the posts. The profiles of the users are also another feature of the social network. In the profiles feature, various aspects of the social network are included. These aspects include following the user, adding the user as a friend, giving props, and sending a note to the user.

Twitter

Another example of a social network is Twitter. Twitter can be classified under the general types of social networks. This is because it allows users with different interests to interact and contribute to different topics on the social network.

Discuss the business model of the social network.

Twitter’s business model involves advertising similar to other social networks under the general category. The advertisements conducted by Twitter are similar to those of Instagram, where the users are required to create tweets that are then promoted by the social network. The promoted tweets are then able to reach an increased number of the target audience.

Twitter includes various features of social networks. One of the features includes the creation of profiles. On Twitter, a user can create profiles that include a brief description of themselves as well as allowing them to post tweets. The profile of the user includes the different tweets made by the user, the replies made by the user to the different tweets posted on the social network, the likes of the different tweets, as well as the various media uploaded by the user.

Another feature of Twitter includes support for instant messaging. Users can send direct messages to other users on the social networking platform, and the recipients of the messages can reply. Twitter also allows for the creation of a friends network. Users can follow other users as well as follow topics of interest. The newsfeed feature of Twitter includes the tweets made by users that a user follows and the tweets that have either been liked or retweeted by the users that a user follows. The tweets related to the topics followed by the user are also included in the newsfeed.
