NFL Sports Licensing Deal
The NFL recently signed a $100 billion media contract with five broadcast partners. The deal is an 11-year media rights contract between the NFL and ViacomCBS, Fox, Comcast, Disney and Amazon Prime. Amazon Prime is the newest addition to the list of broadcast partners, and Amazon will be paying almost $1 billion a year to air the Thursday Night Football games. Three broadcast partners, ViacomCBS, Fox and Comcast (which owns NBC Universal), will all be paying over $2 billion a year for their 11-year deal. While Disney, who owns ABC and ESPN, will pay nearly $3 billion annually. Disney is paying more and receiving more than the other broadcast partners. This deal is the wealthiest U.S. sports league media deal.
The companies are the NFL as the licensor, ViacomCBS, Fox, Comcast, Disney and Amazon Prime, all as licensees. The deal is for media/broadcasting rights. The deal is 11 years, with all but Amazon Prime paying over $2 billion annually. Amazon Prime is only paying $1 billion a year.
