Workplace Environment Assessment
The Clark Healthy Workplace Inventory results showed that my workplace environment scored 54, hence being classified as unhealthy. A score of this calibre shows problems in civility and communication at the workplace. There has been a divided front between the new nurses and the seasoned ones, which generates tension and negates teamwork, as asserted by Bragadóttir (2023). Besides, shift assignments by management are very biased, leading to favour rather than fairness, as mentioned by Cunningham and Cunningham (2022). However, in critical moments, all the challenges of teamwork emerge, mainly on-site for critical patient care- that means there is room, but under pressure.
Notably, these results further indicate that civility is lacking in my workplace. The concept of civility is closely associated with trust, respect, and fair treatment; these are only sometimes replayed, as Xue (2023) noted. The fact that management shows bias in allocating the assignments according to who is in charge erodes the trust among staff and leadership, as indicated by Rasool et al. (2021). Because the relationships between novice nurses and those experienced are strained due to ego and lack of support, making the daily interactions strained, the situation does not improve. While in critical situations, we do come together, but this temporary cohesion still doesn’t account for the fact that there were underlying issues during routine operations.
Subsequently, one personal example of incivility that occurred on a shift included the distribution of unwell-balanced assignments. The more seasoned nurse was given a light assignment, while the newer nurses were handed multiple complex cases. When the issue was then taken to the charge nurse, she dismissed the concern and made no changes. This administration layer’s complete lack of acknowledgement encouraged not only frustrated feelings but also brought out the discriminatory aspect of management. Unfortunately, this situation was never dealt with appropriately and became one of the causes of dissatisfaction in the team.

Question
How healthy is your workplace?
You may think your current organization operates seamlessly, or you may feel it has many issues. You may experience or even observe things that give you pause. Yet, much as you wouldn’t try to determine the health of a patient through mere observation, you should not attempt to gauge the health of your work environment based
There are many factors and measures that may impact organizational health. Among these is civility. While an organization can institute policies designed to promote such things as civility, how can it be sure these are managed effectively? In this Discussion, you will examine the use of tools in measuring workplace civility.
