Vandalism Among Youth- A Comparative Analysis of Age Groups
Vandalism is understood to be intentional or malicious destruction, injury, or even defacing private or public property without the owners’ permission. In this case, it also includes a wide variety of acts, such as graffiti and arson, among others. In a study, the literature implies that vandalism is more prominent amongst the youth aged 15 to 17. Therefore, in this study, the sample needs to involve the youth of this age to compare. It is crucial to note that there are various reasons as to why a teen could vandalize property. In this case, they could be yielding to peer pressure. In other incidents, someone could have given them a dare to engage in the vandalism act or even engage in it as a way of initiation into a gang. During other incidences, it could be for revenge purposes. As such, a teenager could harbor some anger against someone and make efforts to get at that individual, and they end up damaging their property. However, it could also be that in graffiti cases, the teen deems their vandalism as their way of art or self-expression.
It is also crucial to understand that deciding the research questions should be focused and clear, clearly stating the writer’s intentions. Also, they should not be too narrow or broad, with an appropriate scope to develop a potent argument. Furthermore, they are neither easy nor too difficult to answer. For instance, the questions need to be more than simply yes or no answers.
Lastly, the best non-probability sampling technique for this research is convenience sampling. In this case, the samples are often selected from a population because they are conveniently available to the researcher. The preferences of this sample are only because they can be recruited with ease, cost-effective, and speedy.
