Values and Motives Model

Values and Motives Model

How could you utilize Schwartz’s Values and Motives Model to positively influence the outcomes in your workplace or a previous organization? From a business (your organization’s) perspective, why are those motives important to you?

Individual values influence interactions between people. The values and personality of individuals impact how they socialize with others at work, at home, and in other environments. Different aspects of values influence the different types of values individuals possess. These aspects are referred to as motivational contents of the values that inspire drive in an individual. The motivational aspects of values influence the actions and behavior of an individual and, therefore, influence their socialization. According to Schwartz, the different values include power, achievement, hedonism, stimulation, self-direction, universalism, benevolence, tradition, conformity, and security (Bilsky & Schwartz, 1994). These distinct values can be employed in all environments, such as the work environment, to improve the interactions between employees. Actions such as awarding bonuses to employees will evoke stimulation, and respecting employees’ religion stimulates tradition. Additionally, giving employees chances to express their ideas in meetings, providing team-building activities promotes universalism and security, and creating policies to promote conformity in the workplace, promoting positive outcomes in workplaces. Some of the motivational values employed in a work environment include stimulation, self-direction, universalism, tradition, security, and conformity to improve employee interaction (Bilsky & Schwartz, 1994).

The first value that will promote work efficiency is stimulation, which involves creating excitement in a workplace that will boost performance and increase sales. The second value is self-direction, which involves individual creativity and activities. Subsequently, employees can be given a chance to explore their creativity to improve a company’s products, provide drive in the workplace, and provide profits. Universalism is the third value, which involves the appreciation of all employees and their work to improve business. The fourth value is tradition, which involves appreciating all employees’ cultures, which creates a friendly workplace environment. The other value is conformity, which promotes kindness among employees and promotes a friendly environment that improves work efficiency. The last value is security, which promotes safety and a sense of harmony between employees and ensures dedication to the work at the workplace (Bilsky & Schwartz, 1994). These factors make these values important.
