Various critical factors in the Trilogy Health Services model limited its growth. First, the model was capital-intensive, meaning much capital was required for the business to run (Răscolean & Rakos, 2018). Notably, this capital intensity limited the company’s growth because securing funding for the initial setup of the company and support of continuous activities was difficult. Second, industry challenges such as the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 influenced nursing homes, scared investors, and affected Trilogy. Essentially, this made it challenging to convince potential investors that the model was viable (Cochran & Kaplan, 2017). Third, Trilogy’s model adopted a non-urban focus that paid attention to communities in the Midwest. Even though this was beneficial considering local seniors, most people lived in urban centers, thus not focusing on them limited growth. Finally, the business’s model operated in a cash-starved environment that created reimbursement challenges (Hess, 2011). As a result, the management had to use personal resources to meet daily expenses.
Trigology utilized five major stages in the hiring and onboarding process to promote high employee engagement. First, the company used a highly selective recruitment process that paid attention to attracting talents that had a strong cultural fit and shared company values. Second, the screening involved establishing whether the attracted talents have the required skills and experience through various actions such as in-person interviews, online assessments, and phone interviews. Third, the onboarding process contained several weeks of mentoring, hands-on projects, and classroom training. Fourth, the process entailed career development through which employees and the company were encouraged to develop alongside their career paths. Finally, the process entailed employee engagement. According to Sun & Bunchapattanasakda (2019), this last step can foster a culture of open communication and transparency whereby employees can share ideas and feedback.
