The Role of Sustained Employee Motivation
Employee motivation is the energy, commitment, and creativity the company’s workforce brings to the organization daily. Sustaining employee motivation means that the organization continues to support employees in their work and helps to ensure that employees are ready to carry out their duties in an environment. The same day-to-day routines can become a bore for employees. Hence, an important concern for management is to find ways to breathe new life into existing employees, galvanize less-than-enthusiastic personalities, and ensure that every employee works to their full potential. Creating an environment that motivates employees is one of the toughest challenges for an organization. Hence, it is important to use factors such as achievement, compensation/benefits, recognition, and advancement for motivation and separate the other factors affecting performance, such as work conditions, company policies/administration, supervision, and peer/subordinate relationships [Bil17]. The workplace can lead to great satisfaction, but employees sometimes feel dissatisfied, so there must be rewards to eliminate the negativity.
Determining the process of delivering rewards requires some consideration since motivation factors can lose value over time, leaving the employees seeking new challenges. Personalized leadership to each employee is significant because every employee is different, and the management-employee communication line should be constant. Hence, management knows what is important at any given time. The rewards should be specific, consistent, and tied to performance that directly impacts the organization. Impact employees will be more apt to perform better to receive rewards if the organization’s processes (workload, incentive structures, availability of resources, etc.) are fair. Involving employees in determining rewards is significant. Hence, employees have a comprehensive understanding of what is expected of them and will be more capable of achieving performance standards. Understanding the employees’ needs and matching rewards to employee demographics will enhance their commitment to achieving the reward by engaging in the appropriate behavior [20W13]. Consistency, fairness, employee involvement, long-term reward programs (employee performance results in longer-lasting gains), and frequently changed rewards (employees will work harder due to the excitement of new rewards) can all benefit an organization from improved employee performance.
